should i appeal my rejection by changing my major to a non-impacted one?

heres what happened.

i would really like to go to UCLA. i applied to UCLA as an Econ major, with Intl Econ as my alternate.

my mistake was..... choosing these two majors. they are both labeled highly selective majors! ( impacted. oops.)

so, when all the admissions descisions came out, i found out that UCLA had rejected me.

heres what im thinking about doing. is it worth it for me to appeal? there would be no significant change for me to present, aside from the fact that i would switch my major to Film or Sociology, which are not impacted majors. These 2 majors are probably much easier to get into than Econ.

what do you guys think? is it worth my time to try this?

goog chance u won't be able to switch back

Do u have ur prereqs for other majors?

if i appeal and get in with sociology, i wont be able to switch back to econ. i know this for sure. not that it bothers me. ^_^

my transferable gpa is 3.4 btw.

yes i have major prereqs for one other major, sociology. Sociology has 4 major prereqs; 3 i have already finished. and the last one i was planning on doing over the summer anyway.

why wouldn't you get to switch back to economics?

I have heard that appealing using this is the kiss of death. If anything appeal your econ decision you have nothing to lose and doing so would reinforce your desire to go to UCLA which I believe is your best bet. Do not bust a "ok well can I get into this major then?" you come off as indecisive and uncommitted traits that UCLA admission officers look to avoid in potential admits. If anything appeal your econ decision and then appeal on sociology a second time but I'm almost certain the latter won't work. Good luck gettin' in.

i dunno i have heard 3.8+ econs being rejected left and right. Talk to people who have gotten into socio major, what were their stats? Cause i know econ is proly the toughest along w/ bio imo.

i don't think that they allow you to appeal under a different major. check the website. . . because i know that davis doesn't.

Well said.

uc berkeley gives you the chance to appeal to another major.

btw film is an impacted major at UCLA (one of the most popular actually)
