I’m currently a senior in high school and I’m taking three AP classes this year. I’m doing well in all except one: AP Statistics. I currently have an F right now and I was wondering if I should drop it and take it at my local community college instead to make it up. My teacher just posted grades up after school has been in session for three months. My teacher is incompetent and rarely gives out tests because she’s lazy and doesn’t want to write them. So I have very few opportunities to make it up. On top of that, I’ve already submitted most of my college apps. I think the most I could bring it up to is a D and maybe a low C, but it doesn’t look good on my transcript and will definitely bring down my gpa. What should I do?
Are you able to drop the course at this point? What does your college counselor say?
@siliconvalleymom Somehow I’m still allowed to drop the course despite how late it is into the semester. I haven’t talked to her yet, but I had a friend who dropped AP Calculus BC a few weeks ago.
If you can drop the course without it appearing on your transcript it might be wise at this stage. I think adding a course at your community college or completing one online would be a good alternative - if you don’t need stats maybe pickup a different course.
Talk to your guidance counselor. Dropping it may be best, but you would have to inform the colleges you applied to that you have dropped the course.
- Talk to your parents about this
- Have them or yourself Talk to the guidance counselor or department head about the teacher
- Use Khan academy videos or other books to learn if you stay in class
- Talk to your GC about dropping class and what that means on your transcript
Will you still have a math class? Some schools want 4 years of math.
update: I was able to bring it up to a solid C!
Good job and a lot of hard work.
