Hi all.
Admissions decisions are here and turns out I havent been accepted to any Ivy.
(I'm an international btw).
However i have been accepted to a state school which i like too.
So if I go to the state school, and want to apply for an Ivy League for transfer next year, would SATs be a major consideration? This year I was probably not accepted because of my SAT I score(my interviewers hinted that too), and everything else was brilliant.

So my question is-- should I take advantage of these holidays coming up and crack the SAT? Would a great score help my transfer chances to TOP colleges?

I went to a state school too, and then transferred to Penn. Yes, SAT scores are considered when making decisions - but they are not as important as your College GPA.

Many colleges do not accept SAT's you take as a college freshman because that puts you at an unfair advantage (since scoring is done on a curve, you will be competing against high-school kids and will be at an advantage).

I would suggest you call up the college and ask them about their policy.

but i'll not take it as a college freshman. I'm planing to take it before college starts. would it be considered an unfair advantage in that case too?

I say retake them before college, and point out that it was not DURING your first semester. If you don't improve by at least 100 points, you don't have to release the score at least!

I don't see how taking them in college would be inadvisable. I took them again in college, and all the Ivies I've applied to have accepted them without complaint. They will consider the new scores.

I took them while i was in college and applied to Harvard, Yale, Brown, Swarthmore and UChicago, all of whom took the scores with no problem. I would recommend retaking them only if your score will improve markedly.
