Should I major in English or MIS (Management Information Systems)?

I love to read literature, but I don’t like writing a million papers on it. I don’t get me wrong, I love the craft of writing too but I’d want to write fiction. Although analysis is cool to do in a paper, I find that I am so indecisive with my words that writing can be a burden at times and take a lot of thinking time for me (because I’m kind of a perfectionist). My questions then are: Should I major in English? Or if so, would it be better for me to do a concentration in Creative Writing? What are my chances of still being sucessful financially if I choose this major? Would minor in Math and getting a certificate in Computing help make me look more employable if I major in English? And what jobs could I do?

The other part of my dilemma is deciding if I should pursue MIS. I want to make enough money to support myself, which I believe majoring in MIS would give me the opportunity to do. And I’m kind of interested in computer computer applications, but I’m not so keen on the math part of it. That’s why I was thinking about MIS. My sister majored in it and now she works for Chase bank making a lot of money. She told me that there’s less math involved with MIS and more math in a Computer Science major. But, there’s more business involved in MIS, which I can’t decide is a good thing or a bad thing because I’m not very interested in business. I mean, I could always pursue a Masters of Science in MIS after my BA in English. But I could save myself the trouble of spending more money for a grad program if I just major in MIS. Is a degree in MIS worth giving up my love for English/aspirations to become a writer? And would I have to know/be good at Calculus to major in MIS?

Is there a reason that you can’t be a double major here? Can you see yourself ENJOYING working for a company using your MIS degree? If so, a degree in English also can only help that. Having worked for computer companies (software and training and consulting) for over 20 years now, I can assure you that a technical person who can ALSO write well is thought of highly.
