I’m in the class of 2021 and the UC system recently announced that SAT scores are not required to apply due to COVID19 and the cancellations of SAT exams. I took my SAT a bit before things got out of hand. I only got a 1330, but I want to get into a top UC, like Berkeley, LA, SD, or Irvine. HELP! Do I report my score?
Do you have the rest of the stats (GPA/rigor) to support an application to the top UCs?
You should look at the mid 50% test score ranges for each of the schools you are considering. Also check if you can apply test optional to some UCs and with tests to others…I’m not sure if you have to choose one way or the other, or can mix it up.
Do you intend on trying to take the SAT test again? I would expect you will have a couple of more opportunities before the UC application deadline.
Below are the 25th and 75th percentile SAT scores for the 2019 admits. Intended major will also contribute to where your scores will place you in relation to the other applicants.
2019 Data:
25th - 75th percentiles for SAT totals:
UCB: 1340-1540
UCLA: 1330-1550
UCSD: 1300-1520
UCSB: 1280-1520
UCD: 1230-1490
UCI: 1250-1510
UCSC: 1200-1450
UCR: 1130-1400
UCM: 1020-1290
Temporarily suspending the submission of test scores makes them optional so they will not have as much impact for the class of 2021. UC’s tend to be more GPA focused anyways and HS course rigor along with your personal insight essays will have a greater impact.
