Hello to all,
I was wondering whether i should take ap us history for next year as a tenth grader, my teacher reccomended me but i don't know what to expect. I was wondering if any former students in that class, or anyone with insight could help me come to a decision, with like prior expirience or like a course description. i have always been in highest social studies classes and have never had lower than an A (95%) in any of those classes, currently i have a 98%, and first marking period i had a 99%, so please give insight, feedback, thoughts, comments, anything to help me with my decision,
Thanks so much.

If you enjoy history, go for it. If not, the class would seem boring and a lot of pointless work as there is a lot of facts. I love history so I didn’t mind all the work because it was enjoyable. However you seem hard working due to you grades. I would take it if I were in your position as long as you feel an A is achievable

Thanks i am also a history phanatic as well as you so thanks for your input

Yeah so go for it

can you by any chance tell me what to expect in that class, like course work

We had reading every night with occasional book work but every school does it differently. If you are going to take the class get the amsco book. It is much better than textbooks and helped me get a 5 on the ap test

I took APUSH as a tenth grader. It’s really nor that bad, or at least it wasn’t for me. I’m good at history, and it seems you are too. I think you’ll be fine, especially if you have a good teacher. The course work can be a lot sometimes, but it depends. When I took it, we.had to do study guides every week (reading the textbook and answering questions) and timelines. Last year, when I wad a junior and my friends were juniors taking APUSH, they had a lot more work than I had when I took it, so I was glad I took it in my sophomore year. Plus, it looks impressive if you take it as a sophomore :)

You’d be better off asking kids in your school because the course itself differs everywhere. The test itself isn’t hard as long as your teacher is decent.

i’m in it right now with like a 97% and as long as you do all your work and note taking/readings you are assigned, you should be good. with the ap social study classes I’ve taken so far (world & US) I’ve just found it to be a lot of reading and notes and busy work. And as long as you do your readings, you should be doing fine on the tests too, and if not, a lot of teachers allow test corrections so you should be good. the tests you take are often times similar to actually AP test questions (well i guess it depends on your school and teacher) which will help prepare you for the actual exam.

It’s really easy. Reading isn’t hard at all nor is it necessary. I used CourseNotes after the first month of class. My class had so much grade inflation that I got an F on the final and still had a 97 in the class at the end of the year. Take it if you can memorize stuff from the get go without needing to review. 5 on the AP exam but 650 on the SAT 2 for US History. Dat curve.

Wow all the info you guys have me really inspired me thanks a lot
I think i am going to take it

I love history in general, and last year I took AP world and got an A in the class and 5 on the AP exam without really studying. However, I took APUSH this year and expected for it to be the same level of difficulty but it’s actually harder. APUSH covers a smaller time period more extensively than AP World, so you have to remember small details and dates while in AP world you could just know the broader idea and be fine. I started off badly this year because I wasn’t used to it (plus my teacher is known for being a tough grader on IDs and DBQs), but I’m building my way back up. Good luck :)

I took it last year in 11th grade. Really easy class, but very dry and boring. I got A’s both semesters. I’m a huge history person, but I honestly was bored by APUSH. I prefer AP Euro, which I also took last year. Since both exams are the same day, I didn’t study for APUSH & got a 4, but I studied for AP Euro and got a 5. Last year’s prompts and multiple choice were really easy, so I expect for the whole test to be harder, since I had a very shallow bank of knowledge on US History, and I still did well. Actually, I just took whatever info I knew for AP Euro and tried to connect it to APUSH, and I guessed that work. So… take it!

I took 11th grade and got a 5. I say go ahead and take it. I thought it was easier than AP Euro, even though I didn’t always do that great on tests in class. Doing a lot of practice multi-choice and looking through a lot of the previous FRQs and DBQs should help a ton. Also check on CrashCourse US History and HipHughes on YouTube; those helped a lot.

i always watch crash course us history for fun
That show is so awesome !!!

I got a 5 on the exam after taking it junior year. Easier than AP World.

This is a fantastic course in which you can learn more about America! Take it. I enjoyed it so much.
