So I’m a 3rd year CUNY student and I’ve actually already transferred once between CUNYs.
At my current (second) school, they “clean slated” my GPA from my previous school. Since then, I received an F in one of my classes required for my major and it has totally decimated my GPA. Because I’m so far along credit-wise, there is not much opportunity left for me to improve my GPA before graduation.
I am considering transferring again and switching to a slightly different major in order to graduate with a better GPA - even if it means graduating a little late.
Is it worth it to transfer in order to graduate with a good GPA? OR: Should I just stay with my school/major and graduate with a bad GPA?..
I don’t see why you care so much. Employers aren’t gonna care what your GPA is, and if you’re going to grad school then they’re gonna see our entire college history anyway. Just stay where you are and finish. Don’t risk losing more credits and wasting more time.
One thing I’d consider is whether or not you want to potentially apply to graduate schools. GPA isn’t an end all be all but it is important for graduate school applications. However, if you don’t plan on taking that path, you should be fine without transferring. I have some friends at CCNY, for example, who are engineering majors with GPAs that aren’t very high. Nevertheless, they’ve been able to find research labs to work with and have had success in finding jobs that have hired them. I agree with the user above.
