Should I transfer from my high school in Arkansas to California?

I have been wanting to move to California for the longest! But now that I have the opportunity to go I have to wait for the next school year... which is my senior year. I don't know what to do now. California has a different requirements for graduation than Arkansas. Plus I'm almost done with all my credits. What should I do?

If you want to go to a university near california I would move so you wouldn’t have to pay out of state tuition.

California has a much better state university system than Arkansas… there is a lot to be said for this move from a college perspective. You do want to check to see if you would be on track to graduate from whatever high school you would be going to. You could call the high school and talk to someone there, and they would probably ask you to send a transcript to discuss. Someone from California might be able to tell you if there are specific courses you MUST have to apply to the UC or CSU schools (there may be, California has some things specific to their state colleges that are different from other states, and I don’t live there).

It depends on what courses you’ve taken; have you taken two years of PE? Health? A class that counts for computers (Geography usually works)? Four years of English? At least three years of math? Four years of a social science or history? Two years of a science?

You’re probably good. As long as your courses transfer, you should be fine; most of the CA required courses are required for college admissions anyways.

Just make sure to choose the right high school; for example, there are many incredibly difficult public schools in the Bay Area (my school’s nonhonors curriculum is said to be equivalent to other schools’ honors curriculum).

Also, California isn’t all it’s made up to be. Northern and Southern California are very different places, and they might not be what you’re expecting.
