Should I fill the recommendation portion (PART1) of the online recommendations if my teachers and counselor sent via mail?

I dont think I need to right?

Yes, you need to fill it in. You will put their name in and select that they are sending letters in via USPS.

Yes, I just called admissions and they want this to be able to match up the recommendations letters they receive to that list.

uh oh I didnt fill in the online reccomendation info for my teachers since theyre sending it in via mail. am i in trouble? what should i do?

If you have already applied online, just go back and fill in Recommendation Provider form now. I am still not sure what you do if you sent in a paper app, because then you wouldn't have opened up an online application file. In that case, I would call admissions and see what they want.

do you also include your counselor in that form along with the two other teachers?

Will filling out the "Recommendation" part do anything even after you submitted part 1? I'm using the online application, but my teacher recs. and counselor recs were on paper. Are you certain that filling out the "Recommendation" list AFTER we submitted the first part of the application do anything?

ooo so if you already applied online and forgot to fill out the recommendations part since your recs will be sent by mail.....you can still correct the error?

You probably can - check tech support on the online app. form under frequent questions. I would call admissions, though to see what to do if you already sent the online app in. BTW, the admissions rep seemed to acknowledge that lots of people have been confused by all this.

I called today and person answering the phone said it's okay if that online part of app not completed. Person said that online recommendations part provides names of teachers doing recs; that way if a teacher rec is missing, Admissions knows which one is missing.
However, they will let you know if your app is missing any part.

I emailed Penn, and they said

"You can go back online and add the list if you prefer."

so it seems optional!
