jazz/shredder mom is correct. That email was regarding the MFA – masters program. Not at all the same as undergrad.

Alamemom, thanks for directing me to the “Professional and graduate programs” part of the forum. I wasn’t aware of its existence!

SCA makes graduate decisions before undergraduate.

I made this thread last week thinking letters were out, but it looks as if they’re out this week… second wave. hopefully this is true and good luck to all who deserve it!

i live in oc area and the mail man just came by…
i didnt get any mail again…
…
i turned in my app during the first week of december so ,…k…
i’m screwed.

^^ Why do you say that? Up to this point only internationals have been receiving their letters. As far as I know no one else has received anything…

Internationals haven’t even been receiving their letters. They just got notification that they’re in the mail. It’s way too soon to worry. :)

lol nothings wrong with trying to get some sympathy

nope i’m not trying to get sympathy
i thought 2nd wave is starting today and …well…
we’ll see if 2nd wave is already started or not

im pretty sure if anyone from OC had recieved letters today we probably would have heard about it, so i wouldnt start worrying yet ameyajy, we still have time :)

There is a lot of time, chin up. So many of you will get in and start a whole new life as a Trojan!! Wow, that would be amazing…

i just got fm rejected from UCLA. and i am WAY in their range. Like seriously ***, if i get rejected there i’m screwed everywhere else. ■■■

WUSTL waitlist and now UCLA rejection? ugh!

Don’t worry about UCLA - for OOS applicants a lot of the time it has more to do with an eligibility detail (like that darn VPA) than your qualifications. UCLA’s decision has nothing to do with USC at all. I hoping for all of you!

well they asked me for a supplement with 2 extra essays and my grades, and my essays were incredible…my grades were alright. I got 4 Bs and 3 As, but I was taking 5 AP classes and 2 Honors. It was more Bs then I ever got but I also took more APs then I ever did. But I’m thinking that’s what it was that hurt me. USC asked for my fall grades also, so if it hurt me at UCLA it will definitely hurt me at USC, won’t it?

UCLA, as a public university, is much more by the numbers and they have to be able to “defend” their decisions to the public. The principal emphasis is on the transcript, with test scores second. Some say the essay carries very little weight (I am not sure I agree, but I hear that often from knowledeable UC posters).

USC, as a private university, has much more leeway to place emphasis wherever they choose, and the essay is something that carries a great deal of weight, as do test scores. 4 Bs and 3 As in an *all AP/Honors schedule *should not “hurt” your chances.

Good luck (and just forget about that other so cal school!)!

Thank you for your hopeful words. My friends are all trying to get the same thing through my head. It’s just hard since I keep thinking of it as, every school ranked above UCLA in the newsweek is now going to reject me /:

I really hope you are right though. Good luck to you as well as all the other applicants!

sighs, I’m in the same boat jackdaniels. They asked me for all these supplement essays and midyear grades just to reject me straight out…except my stats are pretty borderline for them, but I really thought my chance there is bigger than for USC…well, at least I know what else to expect from USC and UCB in maybe just a week or two.

But I have no doubt that you have a really good chance at USC with all that effort and fine numbers. Wishing you best of luck =)

yeah, even though i wasn’t considering going there at all … it hurts. i thought my stats were borderline for USC and i honestly thought i was very well qualified for ucla.

are you in state or out of state?

Like alamemom said, UCLA places a lot of emphasis on numbers. If you are well qualified for them stat-wise, and your essays and ECs turn out nice/decent, then your chance at USC is also good. And yeah this is more like a blow on our self-esteem rather than a matter of preference…

OOS here. Yeah I was placing my hope on UC’s need for more OOS students due to budget cuts…whatever now.

UCLA never asked me for a supplement and thought this was a good sign that I was sure to get in since my stats were up there, testing scores in particular. Not sure what to expect from Berkeley, but I’m really hoping you guys are right that the decisions from USC are based on different aspects than UCLA
