simple questions for ppl who have taken the sats

when is the best time to start studying for them?
when do people take PSATS? what's the difference between that and the SATs?
and what happens if you haven't had algebra two by the time you take the sats.

and what's the best book to use to study from scratch? like the first and best book to use.

PSATs...October of your junior year. Results come back Dec-Jan. Main difference is that PSATs are shorter, but you can use it to gauge your possible score for the real SAT.

Prep start time is different for everyone...the book I used, RocketReview, suggests 3-4 months before the test, but start memorizing vocab any time before then to get a solid base.

Algebra 2 helps. But you can use prep books to pre-learn the material if you want. The SAT only covers some Alg 2 material, so there's some things you won't have to learn yet.

I thought the CollegeBoard's book was great. I would complement it with a vocabulary book. Good luck...

I'm a freshman, and right now I'm just studying formulas, vocabulary, grammar, and reading some good books.

If you view "prep" as actually sitting down and taking practice tests, then I would start no later than 2-3 months before the actual test.

collegeboard's blue book. Review the info if you need to, but definately use it for practiuce tests / questions. vocab = grab everything you can, but i'd recommend you to start defining all words you don't know. You'll be surprised with a habit of definiing unknown words will diminish your dearth in vocabulary. dearth = SAT vocab.

ah yay death! one of my fav words. Along with scarcity and paucity :]

Paucity = Definitely my most favorite word EVER. :D

... NOT.

-_-

I think the Official Guide of CollegeBoard should be used as the last prep book because I don't see any explanations, just the answers like A B C D. After I went over the review and took 2 practice test, I decided to move to Barron's Guide and then return to CollegeBoard later on.

on the other thread, i recomended in getting the online course in addition to the book for answers, practice tests, lessons, quizes, etc.

i started a week and a half before =/

scarcity is not an SAT word...

You should start as early as possible. Maybe around 6th or 7th grade, but if you cannot, start a month before the SAT.

lol....... 2 months. Use the last 3-4 weeks to take tests and go over etc.
