SMU Regular Decision 2019

S received big red envelop yesterday and received reception invitation today (received reception email invite last night)…we live in South San Francisco, CA. Hope this information helps…[also: scholarship information was sent in with the red envelope]

is reception a formal event?

hopeanddream, we live in Menlo Park

How far away do you all who have received emails live from the locations where the receptions are being held? We are about 3 1/2 hours away from the closest reception location so not sure if that’s why no email has been sent. We are out of town so we don’t know there’s a red envelope waiting at home, but I did notice that we can register for the reception and Destination SMU using my D’s login info. I’m hoping that means

I guess I didn’t finish typing. Hoping that means she has an acceptance.

@jennie11 - I’m in San Diego and the reception is here is San Diego. The posters above are both in the San Francisco Bay area and there is a reception in that area. Hope that helps. Good luck!

Can someone explain how my daughter is top 7 in her school, 3.97 weighted, 3.75 unweighted, 1300 SAT (math, reading), debate team captain, NHS, NFL, president of several clubs, gets REJECTED from SMU. I told her it had to be divine intervention, no other reason.

@jennie11 - I haven’t gotten an email yet either and also see I can register for Discover SMU-did you try registering?

@stunnedmom none of us here can truly explain why your daughter was not accepted. Only a SMU admission person can tell you the real reason. If you are really curious, I am sure her HS counselor can call SMU and ask for feedback. Those of on CC can only speculate as to why.

Since I am assuming she applied regular decision, can I also assume SMU was not her first choice? Has she been accepted to every other university she has applied to? If so, as you said, it is probably divine intervention. If not, maybe there was something else in her application that gave SMU the impression it was not the best fit for her.

With her stats, I am sure she has many excellent offers and being rejected from SMU will either be quickly forgotten or will become a funny story to tell.

@Chrissie1‌ – no, I did not try registering. I noticed a while ago that she could register for Destination SMU, but didn’t want to jinx anything by doing it. She applied EA and was deferred to RD so I don’t know if perhaps all applicants have the ability to register and SMU assumes only those admitted would even look for it. I sure hope we come home to a red envelope though. This school is at the top of her list and I think she did everything possible to demonstrate that.

They sent an email to all admitted students, stating that they were admitted to the class of 2019 at around 11pm PST today!

Also, for those admitted for business/anything, did you receive anything about BBA Scholars, or University Honors Program?

@hopeanddream‌ I received a letter postmarked March 12 (3 days after admission letter) about University Honors on Saturday. I live in the Dallas area, so I assume the notification will be later for most. Not sure about BBA.

S received his acceptance on Fri the 13th of all days, he’s very excited and will never forget the date! We’re located in NorCal as well. Are any of the Northern California folks here planning on attending the admitted students event in San Mateo later this month?

How did you guys hear about merit/financial aid? And have you gotten letters in the mail? So far I just got an email saying I was accepted but there wasn’t any additional information…

@pennytime101‌ You should have received a physical, big red envelope, either now or later. I received my red acceptance envelope today, containing my scholarship information. I also got my University Honors invitation letter on the same day too!

My daughter was not “accepted” outright but was offered to spend the first, fall semester in Switzerland at Franklin University and transfer to SMU for the spring term. It’s the second year of this program, has anyone else heard of students being offered this or having attended?

Switzerland?? Is your daughter an international student or why would it be offered?

My daughter also received the same letter about going to Franklin Univ. in Switzerland. I was hoping that she would either get in or get rejected, but now it has become more complicated for us. I will try to get to the bottom of this when I visit them this week.

Thanks for the kind words, SMU was her 1st choice and we attended various events. So she did everything right but to no avail. I just want it out there for parents who think all their child needs are the right stats, its not always black n white.
