Hi, just received my letter today…
I was rejected from the university. I’m still waiting to hear from other schools, but this one kind of hurt as I was already accepted into the Meadows BFA Acting program at SMU just a few weeks after my audition. I was thrilled because I absolutely LOVE the program there. The theatre faculty there is marvelous. They told me at my audition that there shouldn’t be a problem with me getting in to the university academically. 3.5 UW, 5.2 W. I spent a lot of time on my essays and I thought they were solid… Guess I was wrong.
Unfortunately for the arts I have to get in both ways.
But still hoping to hear from others. I hope everyone gets what they want.
My son may have been the last person admitted to SMU! We just were notified today. He was deferred during the early admission process (we think because he “mailed in” his essay a bit because our opinion was he was in an “auto admit” situation.)
We read the deferral as a rejection and didn’t follow up and even let the deadline expire without expressing interest. Then we got a letter asking us to reconsider and let them know if we were still interested and they would extend the deadline. That made us feel there was still a chance so he let them know he’d still like to be considered.
Somehow though things got mixed up at the office and they misplaced his letter. He followed up and asked for a status update and was told he never let them know he was still interested. After a quick chat they found the email where he had asked to continue to be considered, and in short order the acceptance came.
Note to future applicants, take all of the process seriously, even if you feel the school is pursuing you. Also, if you don’t hear something, don’t be afraid to call or email your admissions counselor and follow up. They are there to help and to advocate for you.
Now my son has a conundrum on his hands. He has to choose between two great but very different schools, Baylor and SMU. The good news is, there is no bad answer there.
@catdecal Wow! Congrats after all that! You are so right - you have to stay on top of the process. Things can get easily lost in the mail or simply misplaced. It’s very important to make sure they’ve received everything. I’m so glad SMU reached out to you to rectify the situation. That says alot. Congrats on Baylor too. Good luck deciding! Its a nice problem to have.
