I recently got a phone call saying I'm a finalist for the Engineering Academic Fellowship, and that I got McKelvey Undergrad Research Award.

So I have a few questions:

Does this mean I'm admitted? I would assume so, but I haven't received anything that says 'Congratulations, you have been admitted to WashU.'

Does everyone who is invited to the engineering scholarship weekend get a scholarship of some level? I know there are half tuition and full tuition, but I didn't know if any were/are guaranteed.

For those who have gotten these scholarships in the past, do they open up more opportunities for research at WashU?

You need to join the other scholarship thread entitled “scholarship notification” and post your questions there. You are a guaranteed admit since you received a scholarship. Not sure about the other answers.

I’m really sorry that this is going to be absolutely no help to you whatsoever, although I do second boomie’s suggestion, but I just wanted to congratulate you on the scholarships/awards, that’s amazing!

Best of luck in the rest of this stressful college process! =)

I’m not sure about the engineering scholarship, but I think they may invite a few more students than scholarships they plan to offer.

But as a current McKelvey scholar, I can say that its been a lovely little bonus! Faculty are definitely more open to working with McKelveys because we’ve been identified as serious researchers, as also because we bring our own budget. Additionally, Dean Laue (who manages the program) is an excellent resource for getting started with research. Feel free to PM me with more questions, or else I look forward to meeting you over finalists weekend! Congratulations!
