Is it good? What are the professors like? Does the city of Pittsburgh have a lot to offer?

Yes. Depends on major. Yes.

Social life at CMU can only be described as existing. you have to actively search for stuff to do before you blow your brains out from boredom. Sure, some weekends will have lots of parties and it'll be awesome, but other weekends it just seems like everyone is studying.

the city of pittsburgh itself is more fun when you're 21. that's b/c pittsburgh is mostly comprised of bars. sure, there are pirates games if you like baseball and various museums and shopping centers, but it requires a bus, and the pittsburgh public transport is possibly the worst i've ever seen. don't even get me started on the weather. all you need to know is that winter lasts for 7 months in pittsburgh.

professors are dece for a math major, you're bound to have a bad one once, but for the most part they are quite good.

i second what iworry said. social life- meh. you can find stuff to do, but this is the farthest thing from a party school out there. most people here just aren't the hardcore partying type...yes, there are frat parties, etc, but it's not your typically college scene.

and yes, cold is the first adjective that comes to mind when describing pittsburgh.
