Social Lounges?

What are the social areas of the Academy like and when are they open? Also, what kind of entertainment do they provide?

well, each squadron has a SAR or a tv room (vandy vs sijan halls) for cadets to hang/watch tv. typically they are off limits to 4 digs for most of the year. the squadrons buy whatever they want in it. most have couches and a tv. some have fooseball, others pool, some drum sets. it really depends on what the squad wants to spend funds on.

when you're allowed to access it, ie not 4 digs, then its open from release from quarters until TAPS.

for upperclassmen over 21, theres also HAPS, which is the bar and that has some pool and such. theres "the alley" which is an arcade for anyone, but i do not know of anyone who actually goes there.

Richter Lounge is a pretty popular place in Arnold Hall to go get food (only on the weekends for 4 digs-and they play movies during the weekends as well in A-Hall). Also, Vandenberg Hall doesn't really have SARs, we have TV rooms which are the same things pretty much, because our SARs are down on the t-zo level.

Are the movies new releases or on DVD?

Usually fairly recent, but they would be on DVD I do believe.

They usually play movies that have come out on dvd less than a week before.

There is the oasis in Sijan. They have a big screen and an xBox or something. Plus you can hear all the bad singers and pianist wannabes you could ever want.

Some of the pianists I've heard are rediculously good. It's a nice getaway.

Some are, most aren't.

As a 4 degree, you probably won't be able to use your squadron's SAR or TV room, and you also can't visit other squadrons until Recognition. Hopefully, you get along with your squadmates. If not, there is always the library (that's basically the 4 dig hub of the universe, sadly enough :)), Arnold Hall, and the weekend! It's definitely possible to have a social life. Just manage your time well and don't become cynical to such an extent that you hate your life and everyone hates you. Having a positive attitude and remembering to smile can go a long ways!

haha no better person to hear that from, eh? but you're right, attitude is everything... not only for AFA but life too :)
