Hey Guys, so I have a MAJOR problem with being distracted by my phone when I'm trying to study or do homework. I want to be able to avoid this problem once junior year starts, but I don't really know how to...

Like I try to tell myself that I won't go on my phone or check twitter or instagram or facebook or snapchat or my e-mail until I'm done with homework, but I just can't do it (I know, I have like zero self-control). Before I know it I've wasted an hour on my phone and the pile of homework is still sitting untouched on the table.

Any suggestions? Any replies are appreciated! :)

Turn your phone off? Give it to your parents while you’re doing homework and studying?

Is it just your phone or a computer also?

Ya, turn your phone off. And hide it somewhere very far away.

Personally, I like going to cafes or bookstores (sans electronics) and doing all my written homework there. Or just do your work in a different room/environment than you normally do.

Are you only distracted by the phone? If so, is it actually necessary for you to have a phone with Internet access and stuff? My cell phone just calls people and I use my laptop for everything else. (The laptop tends to be a distraction in pretty much the same way, but it’s harder to avoid because I do homework on it…)

Check out the StayFocusd extension for Chrome (or something equivalent for your browser).

Hey Laura280,

I’ve already tried turning my phone off- I just turn it back on again lol…

Your right, it’s a good idea to give my phone to my parents but they are both always at work when I get home from school and don’t get home till around 6-7 PM. It’s harder for me to have self control when I’m alone in the house!

It’s mostly my phone, I mean almost all the browsing I do on my computer I can do on my phone too so I just use my phone.

Hey elf4eva,

It’s a good idea to go to a cafe or someplace, but I don’t have anyone to drive me there since my parents are working during the day (I know I’m gonna be a junior without a driver’s license!).

But I like what you said about working in a different environment. Thanks! I’ll try it!

Hey loquatical,

Interesting, I’ll try it! :)

Hey halcyonheather,

Yeah, it’s mostly my phone. I know, it’d probably be a good idea to just have a flip phone or something like that but I’ve had my iPhone for a couple years now and I don’t think my parents would want to change it up.

@junior2016 Maybe have a certain spot/drawer that’s far away from your desk where you can keep your phone when you’re doing work. So before you begin, put your phone in that certain spot, and then proceed to your desk without your phone.

Good idea! I’ll try it! @laura280
