Some hope for low test scorers

Tests definitely aren’t everything. 34 ACT and 2290 SAT and I got deferred ED… Here’s hoping for the best for all of us then! :(

27 ACT 2060 SAT, deferred ED

I think at Brown it seems like SAT scores are secondary. It’s sort of like “this person has a great GPA and a lot of passion NOW let’s look at their test scores.” I also think I saw at some website scores were of lower importance to admissions than GPA. I’m hoping because I have a 2080 SAT but a really high GPA/rank at a school that sends at least 10-20 people to Ivies every year (I think about 10 got in to Ivies ED alone and like 5 people have already gotten into Cornell RD). I’m not applying till next year though so hopefully June will go better than Dec and Jan!

32 ACT, 2050 SAT, still hopeful :D

if you are in the 30’s range…your test scores arent low! Geez…

I definitely agree with AmbitiousMind07 on the last page. You can clearly see that applicants with higher scores are not accepted at a significantly higher rate than applicants with ok scores. Brown accepts such a wide range of scores, it seems like it isn’t a huge factor in the decision. This thread gives me a lot more confidence with a 2060/32.

Got in via likely letter…check my stats above. There is hope…

@Chancellor10 : What ethnicity are you ?

I lovr those stats chance…Gives me so much hope=). But yea, what ethnicity are you, hahaha. And your essay must have been amazing.

Whoever linked to Brown’s admissions statistics:

I too discovered that while applying and was given a ray of hope. Then I realized that those statistics include “hooked students,” and that most of the lower-range test scores were probably held by athletic recruits, URMs, and residents of Montana/Arkansas/etc. rather than your typical white, middle-class East-coasters.

As one of the aforementioned whities, with a 28 ACT and 2070 SAT, I feel I don’t even dare to hope…

28 ACT 6 writing , but i have serious learning difficulties which i wrote about in my essay ( which was actually really good)

However ive been rejected from Uchicago duke and northwestern now. Ive already started booking things on my gap year and i still have 3 schools to hear from :(

I’m hoping that things will go well with Brown…

Two days left, guys! It’s weird, I’m not as nervous as I thought I would be.

kiterunner, I know how you feel. I was so anxious from mid-february to about a week ago, and all of a sudden, I feel this wave of relaxation hitting me. I’ve been accepted to some great schools and plenty of financial safeties so even if I don’t get into Brown, I won’t end up in the gutter either.

On a side note, I finished The Kite Runner (GREAT book) earlier this morning, and I’m currently halfway through A Thousand Splendid Suns.

^ You totally just described how I feel, Sparkles! I know that I’m into some good schools, and things will work out well no matter where I go. It’s a weird, random bout of optimism. :)

And KR is so legit (hence the username :-P)! Let me know if ATSS is any good! I haven’t read the other books by Hosseini.

I’m black and I am from Arkansas. I lik to think my essay was really good, it brought a few of my teachers to tears. The thing is, I believe Brown is one of only a handful of schools who value character moreso than test scores. I believe that the admissions staff actually sat there and read all 30,000 of our applications and looked for things that made us stand out. So I don’t think a single test score guarantess admission, its a combination of alot of things. Hope that helps…

^ Congrats again on your admission/likely. I totally agree with you… that was one of the many reasons I applied to Brown.

Affirmative action is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. I’m hate that I’m considered white

I love how when people bash “Affirmative Action”, they assume it only applied to African-Americans.

Athletes, Women (or Men, depending on the school’s population), Internationals, Debaters, Musicians, etc. can all sway acceptance, depending on the school’s preference. If the definition of affirmative action is to increase diversity, then the aforementioned fall under that definition.

this thread makes me hopeful

I love it even more when dbags assume I’m hating on black people. Acceptances should only based on things you can control, such as ones merit and extra currics. Acceptance based on skin color, race, and genitals is just stupid.
