Ok, i just thought of this, but i think groceries can at times be important at college. especially as upperclassmen (you wont be a freshman forever).

thus, i might remind potential cornellians that upstate new york is home to THE BEST supermarket chain in the world. i mean that quite literally.

now, i've never been to the ithaca wegmans, and the only evidence i have to support my belief that one indeed exists is the fact that they are in EVERY town in CNY. cornellians who have visited wegmans may be better able to elaborate on the quality of the local store, but wegmans is just friggin awesome.

i know it's weird to be so giddy about a grocery store, but the my entire family lists wegmans as the #1 thing we miss about NY. it's freaky. even if the ithaca store blows, drive 15-30 minutes to canandaigua, b/c that is THE BEST grocery store in the wegmans chain (i'm 100% serious), and wegmans is THE best supermarket chain in the world (again, quite serious, for all you californians it is well renowned). i won't even begin to comment on it, because the normal/weirdo line is already about 30 paces behind me, but this is something that you NEED TO KNOW ABOUT! this affects quality of life and cost of living. prices=omg. clean=omg. a restaurant, blockbuster (well, the store itself rents the movies...at about half the price of blockbuster), the best deli, bakery, and seafood around. it's insane. i was talking to a customer (while i was working at a cashier in publix, in FL ;)) from NJ about it, and she said her store even had day care in it! it's just nuts.

ok, that was really stupid. but i like to do my part to help the NY image, and point out good aspects of the area. (except for the bills, and bills fan, who can drive you out your mind, i tell you)

yeah, i figured, so maybe we don't have that leg up on EVERY ivy, but they still don't have ones at Brown, Yale, Harvard, Columbia, Dartmouth, Penn...

Tops (and P&C) SUCK. like, a lot. the fruit at tops (at least ours in geneva) was just awful, you couldn't find a single piece that wasnt scarred or damaged

don't tops trucks have "Big M" or something like that on the back of 'em?

I live in Jersey, so we have quite a selection of good grocery stores, but I think Wegmans tops them all. Although Whole Foods is a close second.

i go to Ithaca College and i frequent wegmans at least twice a week. aside from there vast array of groceries and BEER, their hot food is fantastic! the chinese buffet, althought extreeeemely expensive, is spectacular. those bastards make you pay 6.75 per pound of chinese food but they screw you by making the general tsaos chicken extremely dense and heavy, thus making your plate a lot heavier. i went there two weeks ago with a nice sized portion of different dishes and i was dumbfounded when the cashier asked for 13.50! haha well i got a little sidetracked but anyway, gomestar is smart in not going there in fear of blowing all your money because you certainly will. its an amazing place though. wish they had them by NYC where i'm from...

yea ive heard of Peace. usually us Ithacans dont venture into collegetown all that much. i'm bringing a car back up after break and i'm definitely checking out all the good stuff collegetown has to offer.

I love Wegmens, but I have only been to the ones in that middle area of Pennsylvania. I'm so excited because they are finally building one near me that will be completed this coming fall. I really like their bakery too, and their selection of international foods.

I've never heard of Wegmans... I know of the Wawa, but that isn't really a supermarket. My supermarket is BigBear and Giant Eagle. Western Penn, Eastern Ohio area...
