Thanks @MistyD19 her mistake was she didn’t apply until now. One thing was she didn’t know she wanted to do engineering until after another university’s scholars day(was wanting to major in Ecology) and she didn’t think she had the scores to get in to Mines. We finally convinced her to apply. Fingers crossed. Again thank you for the input.
@BigHerms Good luck to your daughter!

If possible when did they apply? Thank you
@BigHerms my D applied around 11/6. @bakergirl3 said submitted 11/1.
@Corinthian thank you
@Corinthian , congrats to your D! Very exciting. But can you confirm that application date? My D applied before 11/1 (which was “supposedly” Priority) and still hasn’t heard. Admissions told her that they were going to finish all the Priority apps that they didn’t get to before Winter break before starting other apps.
So again, congrats to your D, but how did she get a decision before someon that applied “priority”?
@MetsFanNYC I looked on her portal. She used the online application, not the common app. I can’t see when it was submitted so maybe she submitted it on 11/1, but her application was definitely not complete until 11/8. Neither her GC nor I knew she was applying to CSM, so after she told us I sent the score report and the GC got the transcript sent, which wasn’t completed until 11/8. But my guess is that they still counted her in the priority group?
Thanks!
My son’s strong application (Golden) was complete 10/22. Only thing received was the email that he would hear something by mid-February. I agree that this made it more difficult regarding the decision to submit other apps that were due 1/1. He was hoping to be done with the application process before Christmas. Hoping to hear something soon.
@TXMomX4 I hear you. After they sent out the “mid-February” notices, we called Admissions and were told all the “priority” apps that didn’t get done in time would be done in submission date order. But based on other posts here, that does not seem to be the case. The admissions departments behavior/performance does not inspire confidence.
That’s unfortunate, I know my DD application that she did a couple of years ago in Sept had an admit decision in October. Ultimately she didn’t attend but it was nice to know in October she had an admit already.
This is not necessarily a Mines question but a FAFSA question. Has anyone received an email with a college making a correction to your FAFSA? If so, any idea of why? Thanks.
This just happened to me. I’m stumped. If you log in to FAFSA you can look under history of corrections or something like that. I’m printing them out now to compare.
University of Miami made the change on ours. Had to do with my pension (not 401k)
My son received his admission earlier this month with the standard $12K out of state award. Mines is far and away his top choice for college. Yesterday we received his financial aid award. Unfortunately, he will NOT be attending Mines. Mines expects me to take out a $33,300 Parent Plus loan every single year. That is flat-out impossible. He’s going to be crushed when I tell him. I’m pretty darn disappointed myself.
@Creaky Yeah, Mines is about $50K a year for me with financial aid and scholarships. I was invited to apply for the Harvey Scholars Program but I didn’t get accepted. I doubt I’ll be able to go now, which is pretty depressing.
My son applied 10/20/18 via a golden ticket and we’ve still heard nothing but the email that decisions were delayed until February. There is a deadline of Feb1 for the application for Foundation Scholarships so I had my son email his admissions rep and he was told that he couldn’t apply because he hadn’t been accepted yet. I’m very frustrated by CSM’s admissions, We are in New England and would like to visit but are not going to book the trip until after we see if their offers are as good as the ones he received from GA Tech and Northeastern.
