I’m currently at a 2.9 cumulative GPA, and a 3.6 weighted GPA. Do I have any shot at getting into UF 2 years from now? I feel pretty confident about these next two years, but I feel like I’ve already lost my chance. I don’t want to go to a community college, or the nearby University (USF). Do I have any chance?
Or even FSU, if that is to better my chances?
Assuming you’re taking a rigorous load of classes (APs, honors, Duel Enrollment, IB, AICE, etc), then you need between a 3.6 to a 3.8 unweighted GPA/u to be competitive. UF doesn’t consider your senior grades into it’s GPA calculation, only 9th thru 11th grade, and pre-college classes you may have taken in 8th grade.
Of this year’s admitted class:
If you can get your weighted GPA up to a 4.0 or better, you should apply, but it will be a reach. With a lower GPA, your non-academic factors become really important in admissions.
Still, even if you don’t get into UF, getting your GPA higher gives you a much better shot at FSU and at earning merit based scholarships at schools like UCF and USF.
Good Luck!

For better foresight or awareness.
The cold hard reality is that kids who get into UF mostly earn As taking AP and honors classes. You might want to cut back on the AP classes as a junior – take 2 APs instead of 3 or 4 – and then really hit the books hard. UF will be a reach but UCF or USF could be a candidate. SAT/ACT score is also very important. A good score could help you.
