Hi im an upcoming senior who really wants to get into college park, but my gpa and sat really conflict. my gpa is about a 3.1 and 3.7 weighted and my sat is a 2160 (1490 just math and reading). Im really worried because my gpa is so low, do u think my sat score makes up for it or is there no way im getting it?

I have a very similar dilemma to you. I have a 30 ACT/3.3 GPA and, by looking at scatterplots it seems that if I wanted to go there (which I absolutely don't) I would be very, very competetive. I think that your 1490 makes up for your 3.1 gpa, especially if you're in state. Even out of state I'd think that it would. It's very hard to predict stats like ours. Schools less competetive than UMD will reject us and schools more competetive will accept us. That said I think UMD is definitely a match for you. PM me if you want a link to some scatter plots of accepted students.

i am instate btw
and ur comment about more or less competitive schools has me a little confused. if a school is more competitive wouldnt it be harder to get i? not easier as u state?

UMD seems to be more SAT oriented. My son had pretty much the same stats and got in with some merit money. We live in a rural area, which I think helps. MOCO and HOCO are alot more competitive, but I think you should be fine. Taking the tough courseload helps. And make sure you apply before 12/1. Very important!
