I am not sure about that. I submitted my application at the end of July. It makes worried actually.

Look out folks I saw some Fedex packages mailed today…my fingers are crossed for you!!

Hey y’all … If you create an account on the FedEx website, you can see if a package is on its way to you. It will even say the sender’s name and city. I discovered this when the FedEx tag for my spring enrollment package arrived (I was accepted to fall but deferred until spring) and I went online to have the package held for me. So: if it were me, I’d create that account and hope to see something en route to my address from NYC. FYI.

GS admissions timelines are notoriously unreliable. You don’t know until you know, and dates will come and go and you may still be accepted, or not. There’s not much you can do, but wait, and occasionally, RESPECTFULLY, call admissions and ask for a status.

Good luck to all!

I’m freaking out because I just logged in with my CUID and date of birth and I can change my security questions… am I really in?! I don’t have many tabs at all. Just Home/Apply Online. When I try to activate it under new user, I get an error.

I think I will wait to make sure I get a letter before I tell my friends and family. It’s too good to be true and it’s late and I may be suffering from delirium.

@sha_wujing Thanks I logged in with my CUID & birthdate. The ‘first time user’ option doesn’t work.

@Efelchizen Thanks! They are still ‘Received’. And according to the past postings, it seems that they won’t change even after applicants are officially accepted.

BTW, I called the admissions office yesterday and the personnel said my application is still under review while it’s NEAR COMPLETION. lol
She told me to allow them 7-10 more business days for the decision to be mailed out :(

Anyway, good luck to y’all!

Great tip on the FEDEX account!! Now I can see that I have a package coming from Columbia University, shipped around noon on the 6th for delivery this Friday! If you’re interested in doing the same just go to FedEx’s website. Click “register now” on the left hand side of the page and click “open a FedEx account”. Fill in the information and click “cont.” Then it’s gonna ask you for a credit card to keep on file. At that point I pressed cancel and it still set up my account. When I logged in I could see the packages which are currently being shipped to my home address via FedEx at the bottom of the first page after logging in.

@sha_wujing Awesome! Congratulations!! It seems you are an international student. Then, on the first page of FedEx, which location (country) did you select? Your country? Or United States?

Hey wujing congrats on the Fedex thing! I’m just wondering whether those who of you successfully logged into the FA website all applied for FA. This is making me sort of nervous, does this work for someone who only applied for scholarship?

@Efelchizen If you mean FAFSA when you say FA, I didn’t apply for FAFSA. I applied only for the scholarship and I can log into the financial aid website.

Thanks dhrhee and Efelchizen and congrats to ididthat1988!! I just hope only good news comes through FedEx.

@Efelchizen, Great question. I definitely applied for the New Student Scholarship. Sorry I can’t say whether it would only work for those who applied for that or not. My best guess is that everyone who is accepted should be able to log into it, but if you didn’t apply for aid from Columbia it may not let you in even if you have been admitted. Great question to put to the GS faculty…

@dhrhee, I know it looks like I am an international student but I am an American, one who loves East Asia. The FedEx package is coming to my permanent address in America.

Just FYI, my screen name is a main character from a famous Chinese novel called Journey to the West, one of the four great classical Chinese novels, whose influence is sort of ubiquitous throughout East Asia.

@sha_wujing I am so sorry. I thought you live in Japan because your location reads Tokyo. (Another particular reason for that?) I didn’t recognize the screen name, while I know the novel and the character, since we read his name as Saa-oh-jung in Korea. Yes, it definitely influenced East Asia ubiquitously.

Anyway, my FedEx account doesn’t show any package being delivered to me. I think I have to wait 7-10 more BUSINESS days :(

And congrats ididthat1988!

Called fedex this morning and they let me know there is a package from Columbia University scheduled to arrive on Friday. That along with the fact that I can log into the fin aid page has convinced me that I’m IN!

Thanks for the congrats, y’all. Congrats sha!

Keep hope alive dhrhee. lol

Good luck everyone. Fingers crossed for all of you. <3

@ididthat1988 woot woot!!

@dhrhee No reason to apologize. I am the one being misleading. Actually, I went to Japan and stayed with a friend for awhile and now I am back in the states for a wedding before heading back over the pacific for another stay in Tokyo. I just didn’t change it is all. Are you in Korea?? That could explain why you aren’t getting your package sooner…

Received the FedEx packet!!! Awesome! I’m in!!

Congrats again to all who will soon receive their packets!

Congrats dhrhee, Keep prying for us who are still on the road…

@dhrhee A very enthusiastic congratulations!!! Will you be posting your stats?

It’s OFFICIAL!! I just got the e-mail from GS informing me of their decision to offer me admission! :)

This is such a dream come true for me. I now have the chance to pursue a BA at one of the best universities in the world with some of the top students and professors at any institution located smack dab in the INCREDIBLE City of New York!!!

I have been following this GS forum for a long time, checking to see what the accomplishments were of the people who were accepted. I always planned on posting my stats once I got the decision, whichever way it fell, so others who were still building their applications could gain a more acute sense of what GS looks for. But reading through so many of these threads over the years I have seen people of a military background sporting a range of scholastic and military accomplishments gain admittance. From people who went back to school and made straight A’s at community college for a couple years after discharge to one who claimed to never have made an A in his life. The only person I know of who did not gain admittance with a military history was someone who spoke english as his second language, I assume his english proficiency was an issue. So I don’t think it matters that I have every grade on my record from A to F or that I made straight A’s two semesters in a row last year taking 17 and then 23 units in the fall and spring semesters respectively, or that I scored a 1990 on the most recent SAT I took or that I never held any leadership positions in any organizations other than the Marines. GS was originally founded as a school for veterans pursuing a higher education and they continue to welcome us.

I know there are a lot of people following this thread because the views go up substantially each day. For everyone else out there, GOOD LUCK!! I hope you make it! For the diehards who want to be at GS more than anything, like me, if you do not gain admission this cycle, call GS, talk with someone there about why you were not admitted, address the issues they have and apply again next cycle. Another member of this forum said she did just that and she got in, just that quick. Again, best of luck to you all!!

Just got accepted thru email, I’m still in shock!

Congratulations everyone admitted!! See you in Morningside Heights!

Good luck to those still waiting.

I also want to post my stats for anyone who needs a little hope. Like sha, I stalked threads like this for the last year and seeing the stats of others was so helpful. Plus, I am not a vet, or a ballerina, or an ex-CEO. I’m just a regular girl whose dream is to go to Columbia University and change the world (no biggie lol).

Age: 25

My essay was about my tumultuous childhood, how I ended up leaving school so early, created a career for myself after 10 years of hard work, then decided to change the trajectory of my life by quitting my high-paying job to pursue an M.D. and inspire people with similar stories to mine. In the end, of course, I talked about why Columbia is the most fitting option for the next step on my journey.

Can’t wait to meet all the new students in January! xoxo
