@amberlee9 how long did it take for your application to say “in review”? Did it happen recently, like within the last 2 weeks?
@johnnylawson mine said “in review” right after the deadline maybe a day after
@ivanovich I also expected the first wave of admission decisions to be released today. I don’t remember where I read it, but I was also expecting SOME admission decisions today due to something I had read.
I haven’t heard anything so far. Let’s keep each other updated on what happens.
Can someone chance me for admission into UT Austin? Psychology major, College of Liberal Arts
I am an out of state transfer from a community college in California:
34 hours, 3.9 GPA
Currently taking one 3 unit class at ACC this semester and should get an A
I feel REALLY good about my essays
a little volunteer work but not much on my expanded resume…
What do you think?
Sounds pretty good to me, from what I’ve read. The only thing that I’m unsure about is that you’re an out of state transfer. I’ve been reading that it’s harder to get admitted from OOS.
Guys so something unfortunate has happened…I got a B in precal ( that’s what I get for taking it in the summer) and my gpa tanked from 3.65 to 3.5 I have 32 credits now and applied for CNS undeclared and COLA undeclared. I am pretty happy with my essays and am a member of phi theta kappa… What are my chances now?
@soheb123
I think your chances are very good for COLA. CNS will be a bit of a stretch, but not impossible.
@ivanovich I also applied for COLA. What would you say the average accepted GPA is for that school? My current cumulative GPA is 3.8, but will likely be higher than that depending on how UT calculates the averages.
I believe COLA is 3.5-3.6.
Hi. I’m glad to have found this thread. It looks like it will be very useful to all of us in sharing information, advice and support.
Can I get some opinions of my chances as a Spring 2016 transfer applicant:
3.67 GPA
64 credits (AA from Lonestar College-Kingwood in May 2015)
Ist choice: COLA Government
2nd choice - COLA Sociology
Essays are good in my opinion (that’s subjective) though
2 LORs - 1 one from high school counselor, 1 from a Houston county judge I interned for 2 years
EC - 3 yrs as a music tutor for middle school and private students, 2 yrs internship at criminal county court, 3 yrs violinist for community orchestra
One factor I hope will be considered is that I graduated one year early from an early college high school while obtaining an A.A. at the same time. So in a sense, I’m three years ahead of the typical education path.
All my college credits appear to fulfill the liberal arts requirements except for a couple of sciences that I lack.
I read last year’s thread and it looks like I have a good chance except that statistics show only 740 students enrolled in Spring 2014. That number is a worrisome!
@GuerreroLonghorn wait are you saying only 740 transfers were accepted for the spring ?
I found stats that show about 90% in-state applicants are admitted, and 5 % out of state, and 5% international are admitted.
Hi! I applied for Spring 2016.
First choice: Cola economics, second choice: cola undeclared
My current GPA is a 3.8 (only 15 hours)
I am currently taking 16 more hours to meet that minimum requirement of 30 hours.
Do you think this will hurt my chances?
I plan on getting a 4.0 this semester.
I have already taken macroeconomics and I’m currently taking micro.
I have a lot of extracurriculars and 3 good letters of rec.
@amberlee9 - yep- Spring 2014 enrolled transfer students were 742 of which 379 came from junior colleges and 363 came from senior colleges. Spring 2013 were 725. If we apply the Fall applied vs. enrolled rate of 27% to the spring semester, I figure there were about 2750 transfer applicants. We are probably looking at similar numbers for Spring 2016. I’m trying for COLA Government. 896 were enrolled Fall 2014. I can’t find any Spring semester numbers for the specific majors though.
@GuerreroLonghorn source please?
@longhorntobe I looked all over to find stats and found a statistical handbook at The University of Texas at Austin, Office of Institutional Reporting, Research, and Information Systems
https://sps.austin.utexas.edu/sites/ut/IRRIS/StatHandbook/IMA_S_UGTransferFrom_2014_Fall.pdf
@futurehorn88 - last year’s thread for spring 2015 showed that someone similar to your stats got in. I think your only hold up would be that applicants who already have 30+ credits at time of application are considered first, those with less are considered later. The same thread reflected applicants getting accepted as early as mid Nov. and as late as Jan. 8! So you might have to wait, but I definitely think your GPA and your coursework puts you in the “academically fit and prepared” to complete a degree in your major timely - which is what they are looking for.
@GuerreroLonghorn
Those numbers are certainly lower than expected, but it doesn’t say how many applied.
I agree. I’m thinking that the overall applicant pool is much smaller for the spring and summer semesters. Look at this thread as an example; the fall 2015 thread had many more applicants conversing with each other at this stage of the process.
