hey...all u applying for ssp..i thought you guys'll like to read this:

(note: i applied to ssp as a soph last yr and got deferred admissions for this yr instead, so i would guess most of you wont be getting this email from mr. bowdon)

Hi,

Just a confirmation that I have received your updated transcript, confirming your admission to SSP 2005. I'll mail your enrollment documents in about 3 weeks, with complete instructions.

If you expect to apply for financial aid and have not yet done so, please ask your parent to send the form ASAP.

You might be interested to know that applications are running 150% above last year. We expect 300 students to compete for the remaining 67 or so openings this summer.

Cheers,
Richard D. Bowdon SSP '74

Summer Science Program

heh..notice the increase in no. of applicants.......

OMFG. 22.66% acceptance rate. This is comparable to all the others!! And last year, only 115 applied!! Like..what..happened?

Damn, it's almost certain I'll be rejected or deferred. I'm so SAD I might not get into a summer program this year even though I'm applying to 8 of them. So I'll have to take Stanford EPGY cries

smurf816, do you remember when you received information on your admissions status? March, April?

Classes: Physical Science cries, Pre-IB Chemistry, Pre-Calc, IB Calc. All A's except one A- in Honors English 10 and one in Pre-IB Adv. Alg/Trig.

smurf, do you think you were deferred because of your sophomore status? Because some of us here are sophomores, and we'd like to know some answers.

What are your credentials/stats? What have you indicated on your app?

i cant really remember when i was notified of my result...the website says by April 30th right?...so i guess it was sometime before that..what i DO remember was that i was notified thru email...so i get up one day..and checked my email before i went to school..and there it was...:)
the reason they deferred me was cuz of my soph status..and inexperience, plus the fact that i hadnt taken enough classes to prepare me for the material taught in SSP..ie. calculus..
i dun really kno how i got in tho..my stats were minimal(i go to a smalllll christian school in taiwan w/ like 5 ap classes total)..and the stuff i DID have were pretty bad too..something like...196 on the psat..no satI score...no sat2 scores either....i suppose i wrote a pretty decent essay....and mayb the no. of fewer applicants helped me as well...i just think i lucked out. period.
that summer, i went to sumac instead.
and this summer..if i get into rsi or mite2s..i'll go tp boston instead...so someone may have my ssp spot!

Ahhhh - so I might still have a chance. Plus - I think my science teacher may have labeled the SSP alumnus I know with difficulty in coping w/setbacks - he compared us two, saying that we were both very bright although we both "had our moments."

Hello, my name is Laura Webb. I've applied to ssp and hope to get in! I've been keeping up with this thread for a while and decided to show up- lurkers annoy me and I wouldn't want to be labled one. So. Hey yall!

kimjm-white27, what do you mean when you say you're an international?

I'm pretty sure that admissions notifications are April 30th.

"[...] we wait until late March to begin comparing applicants and making decisions. This process takes several weeks to complete. We send letters to all applicants as soon as we can."- ssp faq website

ha. I'm still waiting for the one teacher to send in that rec. He's sending it today; figured out fax broke. Decisions so soon? Mind sending me a copy of your letter on PM?
