Stamps/ Singer/ Weeks Scholarships

@Harryp17 The Singer Scholarship replaced the President’s Scholarship, so you won’t be able to use it to pay for room &a board. When I went Miami did not offer to pay for our hotel room. @collegehunt2017 After discussing with some other Foote Fellows, I believe that he only way to become a Foote Fellow is to attend the weekend. Perhaps you could call the Office of Admissions and try to explain your situation and see if your daughter could still be made a Foote Fellow.

@Miamiman305 Would you please share some of the unique experiences you’ve had this year as a Singer Scholarship recipient?

@Miamiman305 Thank you for checking into this. I do appreciate it. We have communicated with the office of admissions regularly. They will not, under any circumstance, allow her to participate in the scholarship weekend. I did ask about Foote Fellows and was told that they do sometimes ask students to be a fellow that don’t participate in the weekend. I need more information though. If she wouldn’t be asked until already enrolled that would likely change her mind about attending Miami.(too much of a gamble for an unknown) The big draw to Miami is the amazing program at the Rosenstiel school and the ability to complete two B.S. degrees in 4 years. I don’t think that would be possible if she were not exempt from basic classes as fellows are

@Miamiman305
We are planning to send my Son for the March 3rd / 4th. Here are some questions / clarifications (may help others).
The Airline connection is NOT very good. Too expensive to fly to Miami. 1. So how is the transport (pooled / shared) from Fort Lauderdale to College?. IS it easy / safe. 2. How much time would it take to be able to return back from college (on Sat) if the flight is at 5.20 pm at FLL airport. I was told the interviews are completed by 2.PM.

@Pannaga - many students at the U use the FLL airport vs. Miami (it’s also our preferred airport when we visit the U). There are private shuttles that can be arranged to/from campus which are easy/safe but a bit expensive. Many students also use the Metro/train option from Fort Lauderdale. It’s cheaper & pretty safe and easy but does take some travel time. You’ll want to leave extra time to get through security at FLL since lines can be really long (lots of cruise ship passengers are heading home on Sunday) unless you have TSA pre-check or GOES. Hope this helps - son is in his last year at the U.

When you guys rsvpd and submitted essay did you just get a “you are registered for the scholarship weekend essay”

@NEILRRM Thanks for the info.
