Stanford, Berkeley Transfer

Hey all! I'm thinking about transferring to either Stanford or Cal next year, so I can get closer to home. My reasons for transferring are more for family reasons rather than prestige. So far, I'm a Winter Admit at UCSD Revelle College (meaning I start winter quarter instead of fall) and am majoring in math/econ (joint). Stats are as follows:

HS Weighted GPA: 4.13
HS UW GPA: 3.63
College GPA: 3.90 (Revelle Freshman Honors Program)
SAT: 2090
math IIC: 800
ECs: student advisory board for congresswoman, helped out at UCSF
work: interned as corporate assistant at large corporate law firm

Do you guys think I have a descent chance at getting into either of these schools? Do they factor in that UCSD (and Revelle in particular) is a difficult school? Am I on par with other students accepted to Stanford and Cal?

Thanks!

I would have said that you had a shot at Cal if you were not coming from UCSD. UC to UC transfers are tough. And chances for Stanford are very slim. But they're pretty bad for everyone, I think they have like a 4% transfer rate.

UC to UC transfers are not as tough as you'd think! That's actually a pretty big misconception on this site...I'm almost sure you'd be in at Cal. Go look at the stats online, it isn't any tougher to get in as a UC student than as a CC kid (I'm actually at UCSD right now leaving for either LA or Cal next year). Stanford, that's another story. With a 5% acceptance rate I would say most everyone has a snowball's chance in hell...

you'll have to wait for another year since cal only takes junior transfers

did you get in as a freshman?

sjsu...usf..scu... etcetc

You need higher SATs for Stanford.

Stanford admissions are incredily hard, you might be aiming a little high there. Cal may be reasonable, but as someone mentioned UC to UC is not common as a transfer option. I don't imagine that would be an easy move, as Berkeley is tough as it is.

So you only 1 quarter of grades so far? It's still too early to predict what your GPA will be.

But UC intercampus transfer is not as hard, especially not to Cal, the problem is that your major econ/math is actually one of UCSD's strengths, so it will be hard to justify transfering.

In response to lostincode and lalaland1:
What I mean is I want to apply next year, and enroll for Junior year. Obviously prestige is a factor for anyone, which is why I am asking in regards to Stanford and Cal (b/c im fairly certain i can get into sjsu, scu, and usf). I got into UCSD (not Stanford obviously) as a freshman, but I started in Winter because I am a Winter Admit student which delays me one quarter. I know high school grades are a factor, but from what I've heard, they aren't factored in as heavily as college grades, though I am not sure about SATs.
I guess I just wanted to know whether I even had a shot of making into either of them if I kept up this gpa.

Highschool GPA is a non-factor for Cal, they dont even ask you for it.

Nor do they ask for SAT, AP's, so basically just your college GPA.

Stanford is a different story, it's like applying from HS again, recs, test scores the whole nine yards.

If you can maintain a 3.9 GPA with a fairly demanding schedule, then you have a shot at Cal, but like I said, it's hard to justify taking you because UCSD is good at economics as well.

Stanford is a crapshot for anyone really.

Actually Cal does ask for APs, but they aren't required.

you might get in if you're lucky. heck someone I know managed to get a transfer offer from pasadena city college to caltech, UCLA and UCB.
