@Elrathia Don’t worry about that. We’re all freaking out XD
Since some of you guys are posting your stats, I will chime in too I know that my chance is really, really slim but I just LOVE Stanford so I still applied. Btw, you guys are all amazing XD This is also one of the reasons I love Stanford - its students are always so interesting, genuine and talented!
Btw, I’m an Asian female, international student seeking financial aids (bottom of the food chain …), major in CS.
-
- GPA: 4.0,
- Rank: 1/270
- APs (School offers like 8 APs to juniors/ seniors only, and I only skipped AP US His and AP Govt - not strong at social sciences lol):
Junior: AP Cal(5), AP Physics, AP Bio(4), Advanced Chem, AP Psychology (self-studied, 5)
Senior: AP Lit, AP Stats, AP CS, Cal III at local college - SAT: 1570/ 2310 superscored ( M: 800, CR: 690, 770; W: 740, 650. Will the 650 W raise a flag?)
SAT II: Math II (800), Chem (780)
ACT: 35 on both times (first time it was without writing)
- ECs/ Volunteer: This part is the weakest on my app, I think. Nothing stands out, pretty cookie-cutter. Founded and leader of Science Bowl, Math Club, Leader of Art team, Soccer Team, Built an educational website over the summer, Key Club, Calligraphy (performed at a big event in front of officials once, but in my hometown, over the summer) Volunteer: Mostly tutoring (English/Art to poor children in Vietnam, Math tutor at school, etc.)
- Awards: Second place at a hackathon in southern Vietnam, I was the youngest participant. . Placed third in a state math contest, team placed second in that event. We placed third place in another state math team competition, and first in an individual competition also at that event. Placed third in a state stock market competition, out of 60 teams. AP Scholar. School winner of AMC 10, Second Place school winner of AMC 12. (but not AIME qualifier, sadly) The rest are school awards.
- Recs: My Chem teacher and Science Bowl sponsor, so she knows me really well. My Cal teacher, and my school's head of math department, who nominated me for the Rensselaer Finalist ( At the awards night, he said in front of the whole school that he's really impressed with the energy and passion I bring to class every day, so I'd assume he has good impression about me :) ) So I know they like me a lot, I just don't know if they write good and specific recs though.
- Essays: If a miracle happened, and I got in, it'd definitely thanks to my essays. I poured my heart out in the CA essay, talking about the educational website I created, my passion for CS kindled by this event, my social awareness. It started with a shocking hook too. My roommate essay was quirky and interesting, basically about how I'm a nerd but not, but still a nerd LOL. It also covers a lot of my interests (math/science/art/rock climbing/soccer/ calligraphy). My intellectual essay comes really naturally, about how I used to observe frogs in my bedroom at midnight (no it's not a creepy story, in case you're wondering) and was interested in science/ natural world from a young age. The what matters was still good, but not great, since it's not funny or it doesn't have a hook somewhere. It's about how I tried to preserve my cultural identity.
- Interview: It went fine, but I don't think he's impressed. Do you know how much bearing do Stanford interview have on the decisions?
Oops I just read the recent comments. Sorry for posting another chance-me post. Please ignore that one
@Elrathia Sorry i’m talking about @IvyObsessed1955 . He/she keeps cutting down other posts, saying that their ec’s are bland when the person actually published some medical paper or that it is bad that a person was only salutarian instead of valedictorian.
It is ironic since @IvyObsessed1955 only has a 3.2 gpa, one ap class, and very little ec’s.
Hey everyone, I’m a little late to the party! Crazy stats
Get the bindle app and join #StanfordREA. We’ve got a few of us chatting on there! I need people to talk to when I get rejected, too!
@Stannnfooord44 I’m not cutting down other people’s posts, I’m just giving advice I could say the same thing for my own application too because I know it’s not stellar. Stanford is known for being a positive collaborative environment that accepts a wide variety of people from all walks of life. Although, given your apparent negativity by reducing people to statistics and making snap judgments about small comments it’s obvious that you would not fit into the Stanford community.
The nice thing about the admissions process is that it is not our peers judging us! Chance me’s and critiques are something to pass the time, but it’s ultimately up to admissions. Let’s just cheer each other on and be a support system for everyone! The decisions will come soon enough.
@IvyObsessed1955 #gettinghostile
@Elrathia lol that video was hilarious
I’m Stayin’ Alive. At least trying to. Still doing all my regular chores (of course) and like you said @hopefulmuch chilling out, getting sunshine, coding, and additionally playing with Ms. Muffin, my kitten.
Just watch anime guys. Im watching Psycho-pass. Any recommendations?
@drlans Sorry - Im not a Stanford EA applicant (though I may apply RD) but where did you get that info that Princeton is releasing decisions on the 18th??
@hopefulmuch one punch man is great
@Shoumei Oh been there, done that. Thanks anyways. May the acceptance be with you.
@Shoumei glad you enjoyed it
Guys I just opened a letter from Stanford that started off “I am writing to extend my congratulations on your outstanding academic achievements” and I died a little inside until it said “invite you to apply to the High School Summer College Program.” Probably the only time I’ll read the words “Stanford University” and “congratulations” in the same letter. :-<
So many nerds here… I like it
Anyone is also watching college decision reaction videos? I seriously will cry for 2 hours if I miraculously get in. And probably that same amount of crying if I get rejected

How are you guys passing time??
