***Stanford Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion***

I want to take this opportunity to wish all international students applying for impossibly high amounts of aid all the best tomorrow. And especially the ones from Africa who learnt about the Sats a couple of months before applying but took them anyways. It takes more than courage and determination to believe in yourself enough to even submit that application. To dreaming without prudence, to hoping against all hope, to going against the norm, to you! =D>

@potatoheadhala Haha, yeah, well although there are a growing number, Indians (or Asians in general) are still a minority in both California and the Stanford student body. In CA it’s the third biggest, after white (57%) and hispanic (37%), and it stands at only 13% And the Indian sub-demographic breaks down to only 1.5% of the population of CA.

At Stanford, Asians are the second biggest, but still only stand at 23% while whites stand at 43%. By any regard, that’s still a minority (almost 2:1 in population size).

That being said, I understand that Asians are more represented that some minorities and that it’s not necessarily an edge.

I was also born in the United States. My parents were born in India, to Afghan and Iraqi parents respectively. So, I’m not Indian technically, but I lived there for 5 years. It also really sucks for me because my particular race comes up as Caucasian (for Iraq) and Asian (for Afghanistan). So I get the two biggest race groups.

I think simply being a minority doesn’t help. You should be an under-represented minority. Never mind.

At this point, there’s nothing we can do but sit back and relax!, so take it easy people  Best of luck tomorrow!

I just checked out the Harvard SCEA thread. I guess that will be us one day from now.

Does it matter what type of Asian you are? I’m Indonesian and I don’t think Indonesians are quite common…
