@Helium9 Are you also international? I know @vasodys is.
I would love to meet you all! I’m pretty confident about my application, but of course there’s so much unpredictability. I guess we’ll find out tomorrow!
A friend of mine who applied to US schools last year told me that international students are last in line to get accepted. I don’t think he’s completely right though. At least I hope not xD
@alr33zy By all means I am.
@Helium9 Let’s go, Asian Nation!!!
I am wondering how much does Stanford value the IB Diploma Program.
Based on the fact that they ask for predictions and grant college credit to certain courses, they definitely value it more than many other schools in the US.
@Helium9 They’ve stated that they value IB as the equivalent of AP courses, another indicator of rigor and drive.
@Helium9 okay I’ll try.
Thanks for the advice. Hopefully we get to meet at the farm.
@moroccan99 Yaaah another African. :-h
@Helium9 The IB is extremely valuable. What were your courses and predicted score?
However, I know that the predicted scores aren’t very important in the decision process.
@Helium9 Most US applicant visit most schools they apply as a ritual. It shows interest to schools.
@alr33zy My courses:
English Lang&Lit SL
Chinese B SL (anticipated subject, took the exam and got a 7)
Physics HL
Chemistry HL
Math HL
Economics HL
45 prediction (I hope I can actually get this).
@Helium9 Damn, you were predicted a 45?
Our teachers can’t tell us our predicted scores but I’m 95% sure they are as follows:
- HL Math 7
-HL Physics 7
-HL English Lang&Lit A 6
-SL Biology 7
-SL History 7
-SL French Lang&Lit A 6 (I’m in the Bilingual IBDP so French and English are at the same level)
So 43/45 most likely.
@Helium9 Just realized, I doubt Stanford values predicted scores at all in the admission process. It’s exactly like AP - they don’t care about scores. They recognize that these courses are high-level, but they want to see this reflected in your transcript.
@Helium9 wow man!!! That’s great I hope you get it!!
@vasodys they arent, especially in a school like Stanford that values a great deal diversity. Plus, you come from such a unique country, that probably doesn’t have a lot of applicants, so your application is extremely interesting to the University imo
@TheLastofUs9 That was just the thing I needed to hear, thank you
Does anyone know if it makes a huge difference if a Stanford staff member supports your application when being reviewed? Nervous
We’re approaching T- 24 hours!
I keep hearing about predicted scores for IB but I have no idea what they are! Yikes! Who does the predicting? Was this a part of the Common Application I missed…?
@alr33zy In fact, 4 people for my grade (out of around 45 IBDP students) have 45 predictions, and I do believe that we are all capable of achieving it (we are close friends and we know each other quite well). I do remember reading on Stanford’s website that they value your general academic performance and attitude in the classes more than test scores.
@TheLastofUs9 Thanks. I wish the same for you, and everyone else in this discussion.
@Chips99 The IB predictions only apply if you take IB courses; I think it only appears on Common App if you select something saying that you are completing the IB diploma program (or something similar). Your teachers do the predicting.
@hopefulcard I think it helps if the staff member is someone you’ve worked with and can say something meaningful about your academic or extracurricular resume, so to speak. I don’t think it’s so helpful if it’s a friend, or more distant relative (speaking from personal experience).
