Thanks! Needed this reassurance
@ThoughtWanderer Same I have options like JHU and Northeastern so I’m not too worried either
I’m pretty nervous, I applied mostly to generous safety schools so I have a lot of great financial options, but they are all no-namers. I got rejected by the only Ivy I applied to, and am crossing my fingers for Stanford. I’m already feeling that rejection, haha.
Good luck to everyone!
@takacatboy, well said! Seems silly to believe an “Ivy” or Stanford would be anyone’s “last hope”. It is not the school but the student that builds a successful college experience, career and life. There are great professors and a high quality of education available at so many fine universities around the country. Arguably, there are many downsides to Ivy schools which I won’t derail this thread by mentioning here.
@Aceris, definitely a great idea to have applications in to matches and safety schools which will provide access to financially affordable options as you mentioned. There is a spectrum of schools from those that are not easily recognizable to many that are in the top 100 that are more familiar to the general public.
Ultimately, the area of study or major may mean more in terms of future income and career success than the brand of the school. There are plenty of successful engineers and comp Sci grads from “no name” schools that are more marketable and may have more earning potential than an Ivy grad with a major in basket weaving. Hey, nothing wrong with graduating undergrad from a lower ranked school with a couple hundred thousand dollars left in the bank for grad school or to do other things. Not to take anything away from Stanford, which is undoubtedly a fabulous university.
I got rejected from all ivy s too except Harvard… cause I didn’t apply ;D
In all seriousness though, I have no hope for Stanford. Got accepted to Northeastern, Brandeis, Occidental, GW and UCL in london. waitlisted at boston, NYU. What do you guys recommend I should do?
UCL has really good ranking. do y think I should forget about US and stay in Uk instead? (i am a business major btw)
What day is decisions supposed to come out?
Personally, out of those schools, I think I’d pick UCL. UCL has a fantastic reputation, and I’ve only ever heard great things about it. All of those are fantastic though, and assuming FA isn’t a major factor, I would just go with your gut. All of those are vastly different schools though, so definitely do your diligent research. Best of luck!
I thought someone posted decisions would be out tomorrow?
@lovespink yea they’re coming out tomorrow at 4pm pst
I hope tomorrow goes well for everyone. I was fortunate enough to get accepted to UPenn last night so I’m totally fine if Stanford doesn’t work out. Also don’t worry too much about college acceptance rates since I was rejected from Northwestern, WashU and waitlisted at Cornell and Vanderbilt which all have higher acceptance rates than Penn. If Stanford is the right school, it’ll work out for you! Good luck everyone.
I’m feeling weird. Bear with me, but is it possible to have survivor’s guilt after the Ivy League carnage yesterday? With the record low acceptance rates and seeing all of your friends get rejected, it definitely makes you feel some type of way…
@LondonVall I feel the same way, I think only 2 kids in my school got accepted to an Ivy League (I know someone who was waitlisted to 2 or 3, and rejected to 1), but then again, I do not think a lot of people applied to Ivies.
@Animegirl2018 I saw some of the most impressive students I have ever met get rejected from every school yesterday. I literally cannot comprehend it. It really makes you question the competency of this whole process…
I too go rejected from the ivies I applied to, so I’m not expecting much from Stanford. If I’m not accepted, I’ll probably be going to UCL (natural science)…
Best of luck to everyone for tomorrow!
@LondonVall You have to remind yourself that this madness is being fueled by mob mentality and nothing else. There is nothing magical about the Ivy League, Stanford etc… No survivors or victims in this game, good things come from both a rejection or an acceptance. Years from now when you look back you will be surprised at all the twist and turns your life and that of your friends took irrespective of this college selectivity obsession…
@LondonVall Absolutely, I 100% agree. I feel guilty having gotten accepted to more than one. Part of me wants to give the ones I’m not going to end up attending away so I don’t have to choose. It’s making my decision harder… closing off the possibility of getting into any of them feels ridiculously difficult, because it feels almost ungrateful.
deferred applicant here. absolutely terrified
For what it’s worth, I was rejected from Haverford, UChicago (ED2), and waitlisted at Davidson, but I happened to be accepted to MIT, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, Brown, Georgetown, Swarthmore, and Carleton, so just because you got rejected/WLed to a less selective university means nothing imho. So stay optimistic everyone!
Did Stanford download midyear report from Common App? I’m seeing that they didn’t bother downloading my daughter’s. It’s under recommenders/ferfa under counselor.
@chingooya On my common app the mid-year report is shown as downloaded.
