Ok, while we are waiting for the results, here is a thorny subject to debate about… Legacy connections and wealthy donor hooks! Ivies and Stanford are notorious for their use of legacy connections to fill up scarce admission spots. When data from DD’s school indicates about 50% of Ivy admissions stem from legacy connections or wealthy donor hooks who invariably happen to be legacy, no wonder kids are even more stressed when there is no legacy to latch on to.

Wierd… I wish it has nothing to do with the decision 
The fact that most of you are calling Ivies as a backup is absolute BS. No ivy should be a backup in anyone’s mind. With that attitude you’re just taking spots from other people, be thankful for what you have. I have literally received rejections from all my reach schools and most schools that I statistically had an okay chance at getting in, and you guys are saying you will only be minorly devastated if you get rejected cuz you have like Cornell or havard as a “backup”. Please don’t say that and be mature.

@themasterNOOB I think they’re just saying that because they already got in? Like, an Ivy is their second choice to Stanford so if they don’t get into Stanford they’ll go there, not that they expected their acceptance to that Ivy or considered it “safe.” But I get how it can be seen as insensitive – I don’t think that was anyone’s intent, however.

@chrys1 It’s not the school for me; I honestly cannot stand the weather (as ridiculous as it sounds), and as much as I love Stanford’s academics, I like the other schools I was admitted to’s academics just as much but I like other facets more.
I’m currently deciding between Princeton, Swarthmore, and Yale (but I’m leaning toward Swarthmore), and I was admitted to some other schools that I think I’d pick over Stanford as well. I hate to sound pretentious or ungrateful in any regard, but I just know that Stanford isn’t the school for me. I’m meant to be on the East coast in a big city suffering through freezing winters and taking the subway everywhere—that’s me for you.
