starting my own club at school

i am thinking about starting a chess club at my school. i am quite good at it and love playing it.

However, here is the problem. I am a bit shy about starting it. Most of my friends are not the chess type if you what im saying. Help me overcome this shyness.

And if i even do start it, how should i set it up? Should I make chess playing every tuesday morning or something? Help me come up with ideas.

Couple of my ideas:

-Take all people in the club to the district tournaments.
-Teach some chess tricks every now and then.
-Have monthly competition within the club based on points and whoever has most points will get something idk.

help needed
thanks

Well, I found that bringing in food and having an open door is the best way to start. Just put up signs around your school saying Chess Club on X day with PUNCH AND PIE! Then tell all your friends to tell their friends.

Who cares if your friends aren't the chess type? There must be other people in the school who enjoy the game. Don't be shy about starting it. If you never start, you'll never know how developed and popular the club could become.

Definitely go to city tournaments. It makes things interesting. You could have chess playing 1-2 days a week also. The inter-club competition sounds like a good idea too.

I don't think it matters if your friends are the chess type!

When I started piano club, half of my friends who were in the club didn't even PLAY piano XD (well, some of them could play chopsticks...)

I agree that food is a huge aspect. Make sure to note the refreshments are available. People go for food (or at least I do XD).

see........the thing is......i hang out with mostly "not smart and the regular average joe." i just have a feeling they will make fun of me if i start it. ahhh
