Hey guys, I hope everyone is doing well because a lot has happened since my last post. Anyways, my schedule is pretty much figured out however I have the choice between Stats and AP Stat, so here are my new schedule options:
Option 1:
-Advanced British Lit
-Stats
-Marine Bio
-AP Computer Science A
-Drama 2
-Vocal Jazz Men’s Ensemble
-TA(Semester each for two teachers I liked).
-Chorale
-Concert Choir
(Chorale and Concert Choir are classes before school in the morning alternating every other day).
If I take regular Stats I would independent study Criminal Justice on the side, its a semester class I don’t have room for.
Option 2:
-Advanced Brit Lit
-AP Stats
-Marine Bio
-AP Computer Science A
-Drama 2
-Vocal Men’s Jazz Ensemble
-TA
-Chorale
-Concert Choir
Same schedule however in this one I take AP Stats and if I do, I will not independent study Criminal Justice.
I planned to study Computer Science and Theater Arts(potential double major) if that helps, but if you could make recommendations that would be great. In terms of college admissions, I am not applying anywhere super selective, and the lowest acceptance rate I’ve seen in terms of colleges I may apply too is like a 41%
Honestly, I’d recommend AP Stats for you. If you’re going to study Computer Science in college, having a good background in math will help you, and I think AP Stats will help you dig deeper. I don’t know what it’s like at your school, but at my school, the only prerequisite is Algebra 2, so as long as you did well in that class, I think you stand a good chance. Is there a reason why you are having trouble deciding between regular and AP Stats? This may help us answer your questions better.
Also, I recommend taking some form of calculus (doesn’t have to be AP) at some point, if you haven’t, before you graduate high school. It will help you for computer science and college admissions, in general.
Best of luck and have a good day!
Based on your interests, I’d recommend AP stats.
AP Stats because AP Stats content is just a little more than normal statistics. If you plan to study CS in college this would be a very important course.
AP statistics is not generally considered a difficult course – it emulates a one semester introductory non-calculus statistics course in college, but over a year instead of a semester.
As a CS major in college, you will learn some statistics, though a calculus-based statistics course may be required.
