Stern Transfer Chances

I am a freshman at the University of Miami.

These are my statistics

High School GPA 4.0
IGCSE Grades - 6A* and 2 A's
AS Level - 4 B's
SAT 1850

Major - International Finance and Marketing
College GPA - 3.8
EC's - Entrepeneurship Club
American Marketing Association
Rotaract International
Amnesty International
Jujitsu Club
Concerts Club
Ethics Society
Make a Wish University of Miami
Duke of Edinburgh International Award Silver Certificate

I am hoping for a Sophomore transfer, but that means that I will be unable to complete the Managerial Accounting, Statistics and Calc requirements because I simply haven't completed the prerequisites to be eligible to take those courses.

What do you think?

I am also applying to Northeastern, U of Chicago, U of Washington, Boston University and University of Southern California. ( I don't want to spend another year in Miami, AT ALL!)

Wait, how are you a freshman and already have a 3.8?

Stern is really strict about the prerequisites. Check the Transfer Student board, someone on there had a 3.8 and was rejected because of prereqs. They also got into Cornell, which means that they were more than qualified to get into Stern- it was probably incomplete prereqs that held him back.

Someone on the Transfer board outlined a path of courses for a successful Stern transfer:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1065503887-post18.html

I’m guessing you are projecting yourself to have a 3.8? You don’t need to have all the prereqs you just need to make sure most of the courses you take will transfer over to cover either a large portion of the MAP core or business core. You should probably have Calc done before transferring though since that is a pretty important evaluation of your mathematical capabilities.

Considering I have done all prerequisites except one of Statistics or Calc, and I get a recommendation letter from the Math department, what are my chances of getting in? I think my high school GPA and college GPA are pretty good, so are my extracurriculars, but my SAT score let’s me down. 1850 is pretty average I think.

By the way, do I have to send in the score? I mean, I was an international applicant to university of miami so I didnt need the SAT but I still gave it if I didnt get in through Early Decision there. However, I did. Since the score is low, would it be better if I said I just hadnt given the SAT?

You have to send in your standardized testing scores. 1850 is kind of low, I think the average for Stern is around 2100.

So can I give my SAT’s again? Would they accept those scores? Cos they have them at my University, and although I’m not gonna study for them, maybe I can get a higher score considering I am doing college level courses right now.

bump. CC seems deserted…

NYU specifically says to not retake the SATs for transfer admission because they are a supposed to estimate your potential as a college student. I got in as a transfer this year with a 1920, but I had a 3.9 GPA from Fordham in advanced math courses. I think your college gpa is the the most important thing as a transfer.
