Stoners, Drugs and High School

I find doing drugs disgusting, and I never had a taste for alcohol, but aside from that, my HS looks pretty tame. Most of my classmates are pretty vocal against drug use and underage drinking, but then again, you have to take account of the other people who aren't in my classes...

You'd be surprised who does drugs and how many people do do them--the high achievers and the obvious types alike (at our school, people who were headed for Ivy Leagues were among the hard-drug users). You'd also be surprised which people end up doing drugs--changing from the "Ew Drugs, Never Would I Ever" types.

Well, since this is an open forum and college reps can look at my **** and probably find out who I am. I am not going to comment much. Although if you haven't noticed already...........dank08

Tons of people do drugs. I don't see it as a problem as long as they aren't hurting anyone. It's their choice; there isn't much you can do to change their mind.

I don't do drugs. I've drank before, but not abusively or to get wasted. Actually a bit of alcohol per day is healthy.

A bit of red wine everyday is healthy, but I've never heard of simply alcohol being so beneficial.

You're right. But alcohol in general does have some benefits when taken in small amounts. I think it helps to reduce the risk of heart disease.

Drugs and alcohol are huge at my school. I've never had any interest, though, and have never bothered to try anything. I don't think I'm really missing out, since kids get busted every weekend and end up getting kicked off their sports teams, suspended, etc.

College admissions officers may use this website and there is a chance that they have read your comments before...but it is impossible for them to track you down, determine your identity, figure out which schools you are applying to...not to mention the fact that they would have to be from a school that you are applying to and be the one to read your app AND make the connection that you are the same person on CC....and even then they can't be 100% sure that you are the same person.

Nerds these days...I thought you were supposed to be smart.

anyways. My take on drugs and alcohol? I really don't like drugs. They mess with your head, can be extremely addictive, and cause an immense amount of health problems.
I understand that alcohol could be categorized as the same, but for some reason, I just don't have as big of a beef with it. I don't drink often, but when I do, I usually do it to get drunk. I don't always make the smartest decisions but hey....live a little.

My biggest enemy? Cigarettes. I despise them. I grew up thinking that I would never smoke, but over the summer I had a little run in with the bastards. They are incredibly addictive, but luckily I quit early enough. I am now a spokesperson against them, and am trying to convince my best friend to quit.

Stereotypes about who does drugs SO do not apply at my school. My APUSH class is full of the typically "popular"/party kids and at least one guy who deals... Some of the most intelligent kids I know (play with a Ouija board with them and you'll get into an argument about Aristotle vs Plato) are the biggest stoners. We're in a pretty wealthy suburb and I'd bet that the majority of the kids in my school have some drug of choice, although it's generally weed or alcohol.
I do know people who are irresponsible about drug use of any kind (drinking & driving, letting it get in the way of other activities, etc) but my take on it is as long as it's not affecting anything else in your life-- grades, relationships, whatever-- and you're responsible, it's really not the end of the world.

First off, love the post. Im typin on a psp so forgive any errors

Im a stoner and have many stoner friends and many are more goal oriented than my sober friends. I have a 3.9 gpa and smoke alot while holding down a job. Pot can only mess a life up if one allows oneself to succumb. and you would be surppised how many people smoke in your school, i used to be just as naive.

And for the record you will get high the first time you smoke if you inhale properly.

my schools wierd coz all the locker dealers, pot heads and coke sellers are honor students in Ap classes

^^ That's not weird at all. I know plenty of stoners who went to my school that were very intelligent and took hard classes. One prime example comes to mind of this asian stoner. He got a 1600, was captain of our science olmypiad team, took straight APs, and in the end, got into Harvard. Now he goes there and he still smokes all the time and is doing fine (due to Harvard's grade inflation and average course load)

Alcohol is the drug of choice at my school. Most parties are pretty alcohol centric. Most of the times, pot is the only other mainstream drug, but I've heard tell of some coke, acid, and various prescription medications.

I'm not especially prohibitionist; as long as people don't get into a car high or drunk or otherwise put other people in danger, I don't care what they do. However, I personally avoid intoxicating substances, because my family has a history of substance abuse . Drugs aren't something I think I could handle, with my addictive personality, so I don't mess with em.

I don't do any myself (xcpt an occasional supervised drink), but I know plenty of people who do.

Frankly, I think the smartest ones in the entire drug scene are those who sell but don't use.

i don't do any myself since there is really a HUGE history of addiction in my family but i'm sure there are lots of people who do, even though it's not really a big thing if you do or don't (i.e. you don't have to do drugs or drink alcohol to be "popular").

pretty much the same as in middle school but on a bigger level

I live in a very affluent suburb and things like pot and alcohol usage at parties aren't looked twice at. The people who do those things don't think they're "cool" or something - it's just the norm. They're not "suddenly in" - pot and alcohol have been mainstays of teenage basement get-togethers since forever. I had a few friends back in middle school who starting getting into that scene early. It was tough for me, because the primary social get together would be a party, and everyone would drink or do pot. I wouldn't go, and I'd feel left out and disconnected from the group as a result. When I started to drift away from them, they didn't see me as a prude or nerd. It was a choice I made, and we grew apart because of it. Not all popular people are huge druggies and not all people who do drugs are popular. There's a contingent in every part of the heirarchy that does it, and you can choose to be a part of it or not depending on your circle of friends.

What has really become "in" at my school in the past couple years which wasn't as prevalent as before is the use of prescription drugs recreationally, like Adderall. People who do that **** deal it in the bathrooms and think it's so cool and rebellious to misuse **** that doesn't even give you that much of a high anyway. Most of these kids dress emo/alternative and have adrogynous haircuts. Haha.

Harder drugs like cocaine, LSD, etc. can be found but my school is on the large pretty clean-cut in that respect. If you get really into parties that stuff becomes available, but by no means "expected" or "the norm" so much as alcohol and pot is.

Affluent Asian Suburb - both alcohol and pot are pretty popular. I personally don't find drugs appealing at all.

Yeah, groovinhard pretty much described my town.

I go to school elsewhere though, and a much higher percentage of kids at my school don't touch drugs. They're available if we want them because the public schools and lower tier privates around here are filled with wealthy druggies, but most of us aren't into that for whatever reason. Alcohol is the main thing, but pot is around too.

It's very possible to drink in moderation...not so easy to smoke pot in moderation...I think that's where the problem lies

there was this kid at my school who was a hero to all. he was absolutely incredible. star of the football team, valedictorian, winner of our talent show...basically he as pretty perfect and everybody loved him. a lot. in the words of a friend "hes one of those people that you feel special for simply knowing him."

so: star althete, valedictorian, 10 fives on ap tests, and he now goes to harvard. point of the story: he took the SAT twice...one time he was hung over and the next month he was high. 1600 both times.
