stressing!!!!

Hey, don't worry, this isn't a chances thread, so you don't have to (actually, please don't :) tell me whether you think i'll be admitted or not...
The thing is that I'm sort of worried about my SATs. First of all, I took the SAT I 3 times (although it was relatively long ago - my first one was in june 2004, last one january this year); i haven't taken the new SAT at all. also, my highest score is 700/700... which REALLY sucks... i'm not exactly sure why I couldn't score higher... i'm an international, so i suppose that's one of the explanations... but it's not very reassuring. Secondly, I took French, Lit and Math Level 2 yesterday and I'm quite positive about the French and Lit (750+ probably), while the Math is worrying me quite a bit. I mean, I'm sure I'll get above 700, but I really don't think it's enough. Especially since I was planning to put math down on my app as my major. I ran out of time in the math SAT, i left 6 q's out and, as i was looking thru the math 2 thread, i realized i got about 5 wrong, if not more, as well. so... I don't know what to do. If i decide to cancel the math, then all of them will get cancelled. if i don't, then.... i really don't know what the adcoms will think....

I'm really sorry about the length of this post, but I'm stressing... and any comments/suggestions (NOT whether or not you think I'll be admitted) will be greatly appreciated. Thanx

6 out+7 wrong is about 740!(I think) chill crimson. Where ya from?

If it makes you feel any better, I also ran out of time and left 6 questions blank on the Math Level 2 exam, and still scored a 770 in October.

are u sure? isn't it less?

thats quite a long story. i come from eastern europe, but i live in south africa now. lived in the states for a while as well.

but, my SAT I scores! they're dreadful, esp because i took them 3 times!

thanx candlize, that does help, but im afraid of the number i got wrong... how many did u get wrong?

I'm afraid I don't know how many I got wrong. Don't fret I'm sure you'll do fine!

yeah, i had 11 left to go and probably missed another 5 or 6 on math ii and still got a 700

yeah, but i dont think a 700 on both the I and II leaves a good impression about a potential math major, you know? it'd be different if i was just bad at math... but i'm not! i get good grades and am a math tutor at school... i'm actually quite ashamed...

hmm, i'd take it again and study your butt off...it wont look obsessive if you're a potential math major...

you think so? maybe it'll just look as if i'm struggling....

it'll only look like you're struggling if you dont score significanatly higher than a 700, i'd say anything above a 750 on your second try of math ii will look like a wise decision to retake

alright... i think i'll do that. ill take it in jan.

anyone else? comments/suggestions?

I'm in a pretty similar position to crimson, I got 700 in IIC in Oct and im an international as well. It is pretty bad cos i know im not bad at maths (780 in SAT I and also a maths tutor etc..) and i considered maths as a major. But theres one simple solution- retake! I'll be doing that in jan and if you don't get 750+, id suggest you do the same. But don't worry yet, things are rarely as bad as they seem.

PS. the lack of a graphical calculator may have hurt me as well. If you arent using one, i suggest you try it. I havent got the hang of it totally yet but it seems to make the test a whole lot easier. Good luck!

OMG! a 700 is SOOO bad!(note the sarcastic tone)
i can't believe you're complaining about a test score that you know is wayy above average...you have a decent chance of getting into any score with it.
stop "stressing" and making others who aren't as "brilliant" as you are feel bad about their scores. i made a 720/710 and i'm not whining all over the boards about it.

um...a 700 on the math ii was in the 56th percentile...it might just be my arrogantly high standards (jk), but to me, that's not "wayy above average"

. i was referring to the SAT I score of 700 when i said it was way above average, not the SAT IIs (for which a 700 is still good).

yeah, i was satisfied with my 700, i would have been depressed with a 690, cuz that first digit predisposes us to think one way or another even if the scores are 10 points apart...it's sort of reflext to listen for a "7" as the first digit, and if it's heard, it's like, "ok, 7+, it's a solid score", whereas if you hear the "6", it's like, "ehh...where else you applying?"

you have a good point there

yeah, i agree with rickster. very true.
anyway, thanx to all of you for the words of comfort and for telling me im a standardized test snob. it helps.
i will retake in january. that's for sure now. i just need to focus on my essays now. anyone know the feeling of excruciating writer's block?
