"Pink,

Do you know anything about club basketball?"

A little – my knowledge is limited though. If you have any specific questions, let me know and I will ask someone who is better informed than I am.

Thanks. How competitive is it? Are there tryouts? Do you have to have prior experience? How often is practice? etc. thanks again

Hey!!
I have a more like academic question. I’ve always really liked WF and I’ve decided to take a second bachelor’s degree in international relations. So first, is it common for students to be 21+? I’m 20 myself and I’d be applying for next year. SBD students are accepted as transfer students so I don’t think it’ll take up more than 2-3 yrs, but I don’t want to feel like the old person in class (we have plenty in my class now, and they usually feel left out/outsiders). Second, WF doesn’t really offer al Intl Relations/Affairs program, which would come close? Do you consider it would be similar enough to be worth it? Any inputs would be highly appreciated.

Unfortunately, I can not answer most of your questions … however, I had a 26 year old in one of my classes (he just got back from a tour in Iraq). It wasn’t weird at all. I thought he was a senior … I didn’t even realize that he was that much older until he told us.

Honestly I don’t think there is a program at Wake Forest that would really come close to International Relations. I think if that’s what you really want to study you should probably look elsewhere. I’m sure with some combination of Economics, Political Science, Global Trade and Commerce Studies, and an International Studies minor you could sort of maybe come close to International Relations, but I don’t think that would be your best option.

@scarletleavy: Yes, it doesn’t really seem like the best option.

But thanks anyways!

Pink - I’d like to know more about club basketball if at all possible. I’m a borderline varsity player at my HS (albeit a state championship contender year in and year out) and I’d be curious to know how good the players on Wake’s club team really are. I feel I may be better suited for intramurals but let me know what you can find out. Thanks! OS :)

Pink, a few admissions questions (sorry these are so tedious!)

I just visited Wake on Tuesday and fell in love. Here are my two questions:

Rolling ED: Do you recommend doing it as soon as its an option? For instance, apply in like August and hear back in September? Does it seem like it’s “easier” to get in this way?

Scholarships: I’m in need of some sort of financial aid package. We (possibly) have other options, but are a lot of students there on some sort of aid? Or is it very rare to receive a scholarship package?

I haven’t been able to contact anyone on the club team yet – I’m still working on it Sorry for the wait. I’m going to keep trying, though.

“1. Rolling ED: Do you recommend doing it as soon as its an option? For instance, apply in like August and hear back in September? Does it seem like it’s “easier” to get in this way?”

I don’t know if it’s “easier” to get in this way, but it is definitely more convenient. Knowing ASAP is great because if you do get in, you’re done, and if you don’t get in, you have plenty of time to explore other options. I didn’t really know much about Wake’s rolling ED because I applied ED to another school. In my opinion, it can’t hurt, because it shows that you’re super interested and prepared.

“2. Scholarships: I’m in need of some sort of financial aid package. We (possibly) have other options, but are a lot of students there on some sort of aid? Or is it very rare to receive a scholarship package?”

I do not believe that many students here are on aid, but this is another thing that I’m not very knowledgeable about. I would recommend calling or emailing the school and asking about specifics.

I’m not sure if this will provide the answers you’re looking for, but you could try checking this out: [WFU | Student Financial Aid](<a href=“Student Financial Aid | Wake Forest University”>Student Financial Aid | Wake Forest University)

PS, I would like to take a moment to say thanks for all of the support & views this thread has received. I think it will be very helpful for new students / prospective students … plus, when you look at the “similar threads”, most of them have ~40-50 replies. We have 230 Hopefully this thread has helped y’all out and remember that it is here if you need it (to locate answers or to ask questions).

To questions about club basketball:

Found someone to answer them! :)

-There will be try outs.
-The club players are some of the best in the school that don’t play Varsity at Wake.
-Play pick up basketball close to everyday.
-It is very competitive.
-Odds are, you probably should have played Varsity basketball in high school to play club here.
-Practice is twice a week in the spring, but that may change.

Thanks for coming through again, Pink! I’m surprised I doubted you! :)

Pink I have another question
I know we need twin XL for sheets but will a twin comforter work?

Thanks for all your help

Are there any official regulations regarding friends visiting from home in the dorms?

I would just say in terms of visitors, it is up to you and your roommate to discuss that. Technically there are restrictions on visitations, but speaking as an RA of three years, they are not enforced unless it is an issue with a roommate.

Are students allowed to have coffee makers in their dorm rooms? I saw the list of things that weren’t allowed, but not sure about coffe makers… Thanks…

According to D, coffee makers are not allowed in the rooms – they are supposed to be used in the dorm kitchens.

“Pink I have another question

I had a twin XL comforter, but I’m pretty sure that most twin comforters work (they’re just a little bit short). I’d recommend getting the appropriate sized comforter, but if you can’t, I think a twin will fit.

The best thing you can do is find ANY twin XL comforter, read how long it is, and compare twin/etc comforters. Some happen to be longer/shorter than others. One that is close to the size of an XL will fit :)

“Are there any official regulations regarding friends visiting from home in the dorms?”

Yes, but no one really listens to them to be completely honest, which is why I don’t know them fully. I THINK (don’t hold me to this though) that you can have a friend stay for up to a week (?) but you’re allotted like 7 days a month or something, blah blah blah whatever. I had a friend whose roommate didn’t care so her boyfriend stayed for like two weeks. It all depends 1) who your roommate is/if they care and 2) if you have a single (then you can basically do whatever you want). The rules are only in place to protect you (if you’re uncomfortable with your roommate’s boyfriend/girlfriend/friends/siblings) overstaying their welcome.

I know very few people who have an issue with this rule (most people won’t stay on campus for most than a few days at a time anyway).
