Student bodies at A&M

Are there a lot of asians people there? Also i heard the school is mostly white "country" type of people is this true?

I believe the vast majority of A&M Students come from the largest cities in Texas aka the largest cities in US. Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Ft.Worth, Austin. I would not call the students at A&M “country” kids. I believe the % of Asians at A&M is around 4% which is close to the same % of Asians in the state of Texas.

Also, the percentage of Asians goes up if you are in the engineering department.

A&M is not really a diverse campus, even though they say they are lmao. -_-
It’s mostly white 75%ish, 15% Hispanic, and the other 10% are comprised of Asian, Black, etc.

From the student Enrollment from the Registars office for Spring 2009 -
go to page 8
http://www.tamu.edu/oisp/student-reports/enrollment-profile-spring-2009-certified.pdf

So according to page eight of the Spring 2009 enrollment:
71% White
3% Black
12% Hispanic
4% Asian
1% Indian
9% International

Wow. Very diverse. Rofl;

It is what it is.
I’ve never seen it written that A&M is a racially diverse campus.

A year ago, we asked the same questions for our S2, as we were quite apprehensive as well. Now, S2 is happily adjusted into his 2nd year. He is a 3rd generation ABC-OOS-CA. It is truth majority of his dorm and classmates are Caucasian. However he never faced any prejudice or discrimination etc. He fit in fine as he put it, personality play a major difference then race according to his limited view. Please do not mix up Asian International student vs local Asian. There are not the same. During our few visits, we noticed that the previous do tends to stick to their own group perhaps due to culture, language barrier / preference and facing similar issues. This may have help them to form a tighter bonds and network of support being so far away from home . The later grown up in this country, beside the skin color, most are already simulated into the American culture. Don’t let the posted statistic stop you. It is a good U. Perhaps you have heard about the campus is conservative. Many related conservative as Christianity preference. In general, most Asian are quite conservative, so you will fit in nicely. DON’T WORRY. TAMU is a nice U apply and make your own judgment when you get in.

TAMU is a big enough school so that the percentages are meaningless. There are plenty of numbers. 4% of 36000 undergrads is still over 1400.
