Student government help with college?

I am the school’s treasurer. Big deal or just something minor?

Yes, colleges like to look for leadership positions but then again it depends what school. Certain fields look for leadership. It also depends how big the school is but it many cases it helps.

My school is around 2K students and I am the student body treasurer, an executive board position. I have held this position since Junior year

It’s a good leadership position. But it’s just one piece of the application pie.

It’s a goid position but it’s “school level”. If you’re applying to your flagship (regular flagship, not UNC/UMichigan/UCB/UCLA/UVA) it’ll help. For Ivies, it’s basic but it depends what you did with it - the title itself means nothing to top 25 universities/LACs, in fact a title that’s not followed with achievements is counterproductive.

It’s not president.

Reality is, though, it’s not about collecting leadership “titles.” It’s about leadership qualities. That requires some thinking to understand and to self assess for what you can show.

Also try to make sure you accomplish something…Student Government Treasurer: Responsible for collecting monies, reporting monthly on budget, etc etc

Although I am not the president, I have been able to make a difference, as I know it is what you do with your title that makes the difference.

You have flexibility in terms of where to list it, meaning it could either be under ECs OR it could go under honors/awards. Unless you have a very long list of accomplishments, it’s worth including it somewhere.
