Studying during the summer for a class during the fall?

To get a head start/lighten the load, do you think it's a good idea to study for a class during the summer before taking it in the fall?

If you have the time, I don’t see a problem with it.

Nah. Unless you know exactly how the professor is going to teach it and what will be on the test, it’s a waste. Save your energy and have fun.

I’m going to study for chemistry, animal bio and cell bio starting next month to get ahead.

If it’s something you can teach yourself, like math or science, go for it. But don’t kill yourself over it - you never know what you’re professor is going to want you to know and they almost always change things up. So, a light review is good, hardcore studying is just a waste.

If the class is something hard yes ,to gain more familiarity .My D is studying Physics for her major .

You may not know exactly what’s on the test, but the more familiar you are with the material, the easier the course is going to be. If there are certain topics you know the class is going to cover, studying them beforehand is a good idea. Plus, putting your mind towards something useful instead of letting it go to waste over the summer will help make the return to school in the fall less daunting. Resting and having fun during summer is important as well, but I think at least some light studying is beneficial.

It helps to be familiar with the terms and general concepts ahead of time, because it allows you to focus more on the specific points the professor is making when taking notes. It can also give you a little more safety if you miss class/slack off on reading assignments.
