Sub 600 math SATs

Is it likely for me to get in, particularly early decision with a 570 math sat1. My verbal is 630 btw and writing 650. I have great ECs, B+ GPA, and my essay is really good. I also have a great passion for RPI which I displayed in my essay, and I take many AP math and science courses. So I'm going to apply ED using the candidate's choice app. Do I have a decent chance of getting in, or will my math SAT hold me back...?

A quick bit of research will show you that for the 2005 class at RPI, the range was this (it means that 25% scored lower than the bottom number and 25% scored higher):

SAT scores (25/75 percentile):
Verbal:
580 – 690
Math:
640 – 730
Combined:
1220 – 1420

I did not see numbers for ED. You should probably retake the SAT, but it's getting late...

Thanks for that info. I am retaking the SATs this week, but will they receive them in time to judge my app based on the new results? My combined score is 1200 - just under the middle. I really hope my low math SAT does not become the reason I am rejected from this school...

Please, anyone else? The deadline is approaching.

How are your math grades? If you're straight-A all the way up to calculus (or something similar), they might be more forgiving about the SAT. Or if you demonstrated good math abilities in some other way, on the SAT IIs or by being on your school's math team, that might help. In general I think they like to see a stronger math score.

I do get A's for the most part in math classes, and I have an A in calculus so far this year. I retook the SATs last week, and I think I got at least 600 now or more.

Does anyone know if RPI will receive my October SAT scores before they decide if I'm in or not? (I applied early using the Candidate's Choice App.)

Did you tell them that new SAT scores would be coming? If not, you need to tell them. Candidate's Choice applications are like rolling admissions, aren't they? So they start reviewing the application soon after it's complete.

If they have SAT scores for you and they don't know that more are coming, then yes, I think they would use the scores they have. If your application is complete in all other ways, then I would give them a call and ask them to wait till October whatever-it-is when the new scores will arrive.

Did you take the SAT2 in math? A good score there, might offset the SAT1 score.

No I didn't take any SAT2s and I'm not planning to.

On my app, under test dates, I listed the October SAT so hopefully they will wait for it if that is the deciding factor.

By the way, does anyone know if I need to have everything in for the November 1st deadline, or just the online application. The thing is, my first marking period grades don't come until midway through November, and same with my SATs.
