submitting the uc app

will it matter if I wait until the last day to submit my application? will I have a lower chance of getting in? also what do you think my chances are of getting accepted to uc irvine..?

history major
3.09 gpa which is going to be higher. this semester I'm getting 3 A's 1 B
tagged to ucsc and got approved:D

so yeah think I can get in? I would rather go to uci so I don't have to move away from my bf or cat. that really sunk in today and I just love them so much. uci is thirty mins away ucsc is 8 hours away.

My friend got into UC-Irvine majoring History with a 2.7 GPA – he was waitlisted first.

UCs don’t do first come-first serve basis. However, a lot of people tend to procrastinate until the deadline and all try to submit it before it closes. This overfloods the server and overwhelm them causing technical problems.

thank you!! i guess ill procrastinate a little but I won’t wait until the last minute so I don’t have to deal with the servers. I totally forgot about that it’s probably gonna be like registering for classes yikess

Doesn’t really matter, they always extend the deadline for 2-3 days since they “know” they will have server overloads. I think majority of the people tend to turn it in the last week of November.

^^Or you can do that, but that’s just added stress. I already submitted mine last week, had to pay $630 for application fee since I sent them out to all UC’s and don’t have to worry about them now. Also, the fact that if you do the application at the last week and all of a sudden you don’t know how to do this one section or have a question you need to ask with your counselor but you don’t have time since they are either all booked or your deadline is due tomorrow – and etc. Always think about the worst case scenario possible.

thanks guys I started my app last night, seems pretty easy(: and I’m gonna have a counselor check it before I submit it
@lawlking did u know they have this thing where if you qualify you can apply to four uc’s for free!

…but why are you deliberately waiting until the last minute?

@lawlking, whats up friend? no fee waiver?? 630$? did you submit an application to ALL UC’s?

The instructor that did the personal statement workshop at my CC said that a couple years ago the system went down on the last day and wasn’t able to be fixed until after the 30th. They had all the apps but didn’t know which ones came in before midnight, so they just told all of those who had applied on the 30th ‘sorry’ and declined all of the applicants that had applied on the last day of november

I agree with @UCHopeful. Although most schools allow a grace period for applications to be submitted, I wouldn’t recommend waiting last minute. Giving yourself 2 to 3 days is more than sufficient to allow for unforeseen circumstances.

I remember my senior year in HS a friend applied to Stanford and sent his common app last minute. Apparently the system crashed and caused him to miss the deadline. He was ultimately wait listed and to this day we always joke if he would have submitted it before the deadline he would have been accepted.

yeah I’ll try finish & submit it this weekend

@anythinggoes1: Your instructor was mistaken about everyone being rejected. I know someone who applied a couple of years ago after the 30th when the system went down and she got into UCLA and Berkeley.

Regardless, I still wouldn’t wait until the last day.
