I saw a couple different people on here who said they called to check if their entire test was considered, but I called just now for the heck of it: they had no idea what I was talking about and said that they couldn’t even check as far as they knew. They didn’t even believe me at first when I said I was calling about AP. Is there a secret code or something?
@rugitusastra when I called they said the same thing, they must have some incompetent workers there…
I took WHAP this year and had to take the makeup because I was out of school for the state soccer tournament. I received my scores today and got a 3 on WHAP. Now there are several reasons why I believe this score may be wrong. First off I always did well in my class, always had an A. I took APUSH last year and got a 4, and have realized that history is my strongest subject (or so I thought). Multiple choice has always been my strongest part, however on the makeup the essays we’re very easy in my opinion. I realize that it’d cost me $30 but considering my college only accepts 4, sonthis rescore could save me money in the long run.
I can’t request my FR section (a tragic flaw of taking the makeup test), but I’m curious if anyone’s been in this situation and had success?
Just wanted to drop in and say for the VAST majority of people, college board didn’t screw up. What I’m about to say is going to hurt, but it’s better to know the truth now than never. You probably aren’t as smart as you think you are. If you were easily getting an A in your AP Class, but you ended up with a 3 or 4 on the exam, that’s because your class was too easy and not reflective of the AP exam. Very rarely does college board screw up on grading - probably far less than 1% of all tests, so don’t get your hopes up. Accept your score and move on, a 3 on an AP exam isn’t going to crush your future.
My teacher gave us harder work and study material than what was on the actual world history exam. The multiple choice section and the essays were very straightforward and simple, but my emotions do not reflect on reality. I walked out of the exam room with a smile on my face because I felt confident. I viewed my score yesterday. It’s difficult to process the fact that I got a 2. I am not going to major in history but its just not right! It’s not right because history and science is what I’m strong at. I did not shed any tears but the least thing I want to happen is having my teacher know that one of his best students failed and not get his $50. If my score does not go up from the rescore, I am 100% determined to take that exam again next year and prove I mastered. (:<
@Lilbluelollypop, that sounds like random test-taking variance to me. If you read through the thread examples, rescores are for absurd cases like “I got a 5 on AP Calc AB last year and thought I destroyed this year’s exam but somehow got a 1 on AP Calc BC with a 1 on the AB subscore.” There’s almost no conceivable way that a grading error would be responsible for you having a 3 instead of a 4. Sorry :-/
The AP exams are not if you are smart or not.
They are a combination of:
- how smart you are
- how smart all the people who took the test are
- how you felt and reacted to the test and other things that day
- how the scorer felt about your answer (or even how well they read it)
Being a good test taker may or may not relate to your knowledge level.
And the last poster is not correct, if there is any open-ended part of the test, literally 1% difference can bring you up or down a point. It is graded on a very rough scale - if 80% is a 5 one year, it is possible 75% is a 5 one year, and if you can go from 74% to 75%, you get the 5.
As a professor, I have some wiggle room to increase a grade if someone has stood out in a positive way. I know that AP graders are people too, and it is possible especially with LA AP exams that a regrade by another person could give a boost.
FWIW, my son got a 4 on a AP LA exam and he basically didn’t study nor did he do well in the class. I figure it was getting a topic he really liked/excelled at apparently - he did not do well on the SAT essay for example, nor the SAT CR.
If you have the money, go for the regrade - why not? If you don’t, suck it up.
@rhandco, yes, that is correct. By grading error, I meant some sort of systemic malfunction, like the College Board’s scantron machine misreading your multiple choice sheet, your FRQs being lost, etc.—basically, something that a regrade request would actually fix—as opposed to the subjectivity of misreading a question or having a grader mess up a FRQ response a bit—something that you are forced to deal with.
It is almost impossible for a systemic error of that nature (i.e. half your test didn’t count) to move you from a 3 to a 4, and this should make logical sense.
@“Keasbey Nights” You’re not considering is the possibility that @Lilbluelollypop could have actually gotten a 5. It is entirely possible for a missing section to change a score from a 5 to a 3. And anyway, they’re very large ranges. If a mistake can make a 5 a 3, why can’t the same mistake change a high range 4 to a low range 3?
Hi, I took the AP Physic 1 exam and received a 2. I’ve done some research, and apparently, if you get about 20-27% of the 180 point possible, you get a two. I honestly don’t think I am THAT bad in Physics, and I managed to receive a steady A- in my class. During the test, I completely finished 3 out of the 5 free-response questions (even though 1 or 2 parts, I wasn’t too sure whether they were correct) and answered half of the 4th question, and neglected to do the last. I am not completely sure about the multiple choice, but I answered all questions, and I was sure that I got about 2/5 of the entire multiple choice correct. And about 10-15 questions that I completely did not know how to do, and the rest I did some guess work combined with my knowledge, and either got an answer in one of the options (most which I did) or did not get one at all. I don’t think I am good enough for a 5, but I really think I should have gotten a 4 or at least a 3, considering I did pretty well in class and got some extra help from a Masters Degree Physic tutor. 2 seems far too low, as thats only about 25 percent of all questions correct. Do you think I should apply for a rescore? Maybe its possible CB forgot to add the free response to the total score.
Hi everyone,
I got my score today for the AP World History Exam and I received a 2. When I saw my score on the screen I was struck! I also used the AP Pass calculator and according to that either did not do my MC or my essays which I know for sure that I did do. The MC was ok and the essays were incredibly easy topics and and I wrote thoroughly and I also reread my essays. I am going to apply for the re-scoring thing and also apply to get my FRQs back. When I saw my score I immediately called the AP portion of the CB and the lady at the “Customer Service” thing and she said that they would’ve already told me that they did not receive portions of my test. However, I read all the stories on here and it seems to me that they don’t tell you that they did not receive portions of the test. I am hoping that my score gets changed to at least a 3. Please wish me good luck! Also I am a sophomore and this was my first AP test ever. I am going to mail in the request forms and money today.
This gives me a lot of hope. I am sending my rescore today. I got a 2 and I’m hoping for AT LEAST a 3 if not a 4 or 5 which I believe I should’ve gotten.
@sumrit17 I am facing a similar problem too. I felt fairly confident once i exited the exam room. I got a 1 while all my friends got 3s and 4s.
@kingbenson You should get it re-scored because I am 90% sure there are many tests that were bubbled wrong or something or the FRQs got lost. I sent the form to get my MC re-scored and I also sent a form to get my FRQs back just in case they lost it. I have gathered a lot of hope from this thread (I read every story) and I am now impatiently waiting for my re-score. Wish me good luck! Also, many of my friends who slacked off or did not finish the essays or the MC, they passed! So for sure something is fishy!
@cherrypop 25% used to be the cutoff for Physics B. The Physics 1 cutoffs are not released, so there is no way to know. It could be higher than 25% for a 2. The thing is, the scoring guidelines aren’t released either, so it’s not possible to know around how many points you got on the FRQ. It was a new exam, so expectations were very different. It depends on how confident you were on the questions you answered. If they were mostly right or almost completely right, then it should be higher than a 2. Otherwise, it might be a 2.
So I got a 3 on AP Bio, but I got a 730 on the Bio SAT II subject test and also an A in the class. Should I rescore it? Thank you so much!
@swiftninja No, The new AP bio test does not test for regurgitation, so I’m sure the 3 is what you actually got… I have reallllllllyyyyy smart friends who also got 3’s and 4’s on the this new AP bio test but got 770+ on the bio subject test.
@swiftninja, I do not think you should rescore it. Some of the smartest people I know got 4s on the biology exam, and that’s not because they didn’t prepare. I think the 3 you got is the score you earned. Rescores are normally for exam scores like 1 or 2.
How long does it normally take to receive the rescore results? I know that they say 6 to 8 weeks, but all the time frames I’ve heard are much shorter than that.
Is it worth it to get it rescored. Because I got a 4 on the World history test and wanted to get it rescored since the test was really easy. But i know i probably didn’t do that well on the multiple choice but i wanted to get my FRQ rescored. Should I get it rescored because I was still pretty confident that I deserved a 5.
