Successful AP Rescore Stories?

i'm not sure if being the only one in my school taking it had anything to do with it or what... but i would have to try to get a 1 on it.

i'm not sure if i will get a rescore since i got 4 credits already, and i would only get 2 more, un-important credits. i might talk to my adviser or something before i decide. right now it doesn't seem worth the money and time.

do we get to see the grading on the FR booklets though?

You only get your FR booklet ... no comments or grading info. If you really think you were shafted, you could ask a knowledgeable teacher or college prof to look at your FR stuff & tell you if they think your answers are that bad. D's friend got a 3 on Comp last year & when the teacher (who is also an AP Comp scorer, by the way) looked at her test, she said she thought it should have been scored higher. Of course, the only thing that did was let the girl know she writes well ... it didn't get her a change in score or college credit.

Kelsmoms asked -if class selection was impacted by the college board incorrectly grading 2 exams as 3s instead of 5s.

The erroneous 3 kept him out of the more advanced Bio class his first college semester, a course he had to take and do well in to also get credit for the AP course. He was able to take it second semester.

We did not find CB at all responsive in correcting their error. There was no indication on the July score report that a portion of the tests were not scored. My S was stunned by his grades insisting that he knew the answer to every single bio question.
In September he was notified about the grade change in Geo and I called and asked about Bio, begging them to check. The Bio grade was also incorrect. However, despite multiple phone calls it took 3 weeks to get a corrected report.

Wow ... do you mean that CB may not have even informed you that the Bio score had changed?? The more I hear, the less faith I have in AP's.

Hey, i know this thread is old, but I was the person who got a 1 on the US History AP. I sent a request for a rescore about a month and a half ago and, today, i have just received a reply from Collegeboard. My actual score on the test is a 4. I guess you can consider this as a successful rescore story. Anyone else get any reply from Collegeboard?

Congratulations!! That is an amazing change in score. Did they tell you anything about why the difference was so large?

Congratulations - both on your score and on your confidence in how well you knew the material covered by the test. Did they make you pay for the rescore, or did they refund your money?

They said that for some reason, the machine didn't read the US History form code on my answer sheet, and no, i did not get a refund, but the rescore was well worth the money.

I shouldn't be surprised that your money isn't being refunded, but I am. It's THEIR mistake!! I do agree, though, that it's worth it.

Even though I have only heard a handful of successful rescore stories, they have prompted me to request a rescore on one of my D's tests. It is one that would get her out of a required class that doesn't lead to any other classes she needs to take ... in other words, it will free up space for something she would prefer to study. She felt she definitely did better than the score indicates, so I am going to bite the bullet & give the CB folks more of my hard-earned money. Yuck.

ok well i recently got my ap results and it says 1 on AP Comp Sci A, but i have a perfect 6.0 gpa in the class and studied like crazy the entire year writing code, practicing code, getting tutored, etcā€¦same goes for APHUG (gotta 3 btw) but i studied barronā€™s 2ā€¦did 7 practice essays, and took 3 practice testsā€¦and I also studied every minute i was idleā€¦meaning no minute was left freeā€¦i also walked out of the test feeling very confident about my essays and 60% sure about the multiple choiceā€¦also i dont get how my friends dont study at all and get 4 on the APHUG n like 2 or 3 on the APCS and im a first ranker in school and i studied by butt off for both testsā€¦

should i rescore?

oh and to addā€¦i was expecting a 5 on the APHUG and 4 on the APCS when i walked out

If youā€™re convinced enough to write such a long paragraph with such conviction and to post it in two threads looking for reassuring responses, just do it. Not like youā€™re apt to lose anything (except money, of course :S)~

hahaā€¦thnks

do you get any extra credit for a higher AB subscore? if so, thatā€™s kind of strange. if you donā€™t, then whatā€™s the point?

and you could probably take a placement test to get credit for the AB portion.

EDIT: whoops, accidental reply to page 2ā€¦ wasnā€™t thinkingā€¦ sorry guys.

Iā€™m posting because I got valuable advice from a similar forum.

My son received a 1 on his AP Chemistry exam this spring. This was simply not possible for many reasons, including previous scores and the fact that he got an A in the class from an experienced teacher (who has never had a student receive a 1). I know someone who worked for College Board who confirmed that a 1 is the grade that you get ā€œwhen you only sign your name.ā€ I ensured that my son was conscious and handed in his exam; he finished the whole thing and thought it went fine.

So. In early July, I sent College Board a written request for a rescore and to receive the free reply booklet. The accompanying check was cashed in July.

I hadnā€™t heard anything in early September, so I called the College Board. After having a ā€œCaseā€ set up and talking to three agents over the course of two weeks, the third agent said ā€œWe never received a request for the rescore or the free reply booklet.ā€ I said that it accompanied the check, which they cashed. "ā€œWe didnā€™t get the request.ā€ I asked if they thought that I was just sending a donation. (I had been patient, but was starting to lose patience.). ā€œOh, we get thousands of checks,ā€ she said blithely. I had to fax in another request. Not e-mail, because College Board functions in the 19th century.

So, today, Sept. 30, I heard from College Board. They received the request, which I faxed last Friday, and will process it in 6-8 days. After that, it will take 6-8 weeks to rescore the exam.

My poor kid. Poor anyone trapped in this miserable purgatory. My son had studied hard, saying ā€œThis means that Iā€™ll never have to take Chemistry again.ā€ In fact, he may have to take the AP exam again in the spring if this thing continues to bollox along at the current level of bureaucratic incompetence.

Northwesterner: you will probably get the re-score sooner than you think.

Your sonā€™s story sounds like my sonā€™s. He took APUSH last year and walked out of the test thinking it wasnā€™t too hard. He received a perfect score in the Virginia SOL test and a 720 on the SAT Subject test, so it came as a shock that he had just a 2 on the APUSH exam. We faxed in a request that his test be re-scored and also that we be sent his free-response booklet. This was on 7/17/09. We received the free-response booklet but not the re-scoring. I called in mid-September and found that the re-scoring request had never been processed. After three more faxes (try finding the correct fax number on their website, if you can; the correct number is 1-609-771-7320) and four more phone calls, I was finally assured that the re-score request was processed on 9/22/09. We received the corrected score report on 10/2/09 via UPS next day shipping. My sonā€™s score went from a 2 to a 5.

The score report was accompanied by a form letter claiming that my son fouled up his scoresheet. Sounds like the score reported in July was based on just his free-response section. Maybe he did mess up on his multiple choice scoresheet; but a classmate of his, whoā€™s the most meticulous person Iā€™ve met in my life, also had his APUSH exam re-scored, and his score went from 3 to 5. Two in the same class fouled things up? Please.

The lesson learned is that if the score sounds too low, request the re-score. If you were hoping for a 5 and received a 4, then itā€™s probably correct because you canā€™t get a 4 from just one test section. But if your score is more than one notch below your expectations, get it re-scored. My experience with CollegeBoard in this matter shows that theyā€™re not very good at what they do for a living.

The last day to request re-scoring for the spring tests is 10/31/09. Hereā€™s how to do it by fax; I suggest that you type all this out, print it, and fax it:

Write a short paragraph telling them which test you want re-scored.
Name
Address
Sex
Date of Birth
AP Number
AP Exam Title
Credit Card
CC Number
Valid through date
Name on the card.

Sign it and date it. Fax to 1-609-771-7320. A couple of days later call 1-609-771-7300 to see if they actually received it and have acted on it. Good luck.

Bump.

This string will probably be of interest in July as test scores start arriving. Iā€™ve already asked my son to estimate how he thinks he did on his three exams this year.

I took Mechanics and E and M this year. I thought I did ok on Mech. and pretty badly on E and M. However, I got a 3 on E and M, but a 2 on Mech. even though I studied a lot and worked hard to pass Mech. I think there must have been an error in Mech. so I am getting it rescored and the free response booklet.

How long does it take to get an exam rescored? If I faxed it in tomorrow how long would it really take? Also how long does it take to get free response booklets?

just curiousā€¦
if you effed up the entire multiple choice (as in you skipped number 1, and forgot to skip it on your MC so every bubble is one answer off) can you get that rescored?
