Successful AP Rescore Stories?

I got a 3 in Ap World History, but left that room confident of getting a 5. In the begining of the year, I would get consistent 4’s on practice tests, but as the year moved on, I began to get all 5’s on all the practics tests i took. I even talked to one girl in my class who told me she got a 4, while on practice tests she would commonly get 3’s and 4’s. Should I request a rescore?

@Whundrbread Your story sounds like mine. I’m in the same predicament, and I’m relativel sure I’m going to opt for a re-score and request my essays.

I just recieved my grade for AP European History that I took in May as a sophomore, and I got a 1. Although I ran out of time for multiple choice and did not do as strongly as I planned to, I thought I would have gotten at least a 3! I also did put incorrect information in one of my FRQs but I felt my DBQ was strong. Every practice test including my midterm pointed towards a 3. But a 1?! I’m not really sure what to do. After seeing the success many have been having by rescoring, I am considering sending mine in for a rescore as well. If I do a rescore, do they check over the entire test? If CB did make a mistake, it could have been anywhere in the test, not just in the multiple choice. Hopefully I will find out some of my other peers’ scores and see how well they did. I know I am far from the worst in my class. Do you think I should rescore or request my answer booklet?

Hi,

I’m considering a rescore for my APUS grade. During the course, I received strictly A’s to A+'s, and at the end of the year I was awarded with the US History prize for achievement for my whole junior grade. People often came to me with questions, and history is my best subject. Coming out of the test I felt great, and the essay questions were of no challenge to me (I had happened to have done a project on one of them). During two preliminary practice tests, I only got 5’s, often getting around 70 of the multiple choice questions right. I proceeded to study and review all of my notes from the year. My teacher told the class that if you get this percentage of multiple choice questions right, you could “drool” over the essays and still get a 5.

However, I received my score via the phone method, and I was shocked to find out that I had gotten a 4. I’m thinking that there must have been a mistake. Considering my background, would it be wise to get a re-score?

Thanks in advance for your input.

I took two exams this year—US History and English Literature—and scored, respectively, a 4 and a 3. I was feeling ill when I took those exams and didn’t study properly for them, but was still very surprised and disappointed. It never even occurred to me to doubt the College Board’s scoring, but now I’m wondering if I should get them re-scored?

I attend a rigorous prep school and received high A’s in both of those AP classes. As a history buff planning to major in political science, do you think it’s worth retaking those exams next spring? I mean, I re-read presidential biographies for fun and am taking two more AP English courses next year. The knowledge won’t disappear.

Thanks in advance!

One more thing: Do colleges actually care about AP exam scores? For Ivies and other reach schools, I assume every little detail counts…

The whole thing just seems a little strange to me. If we’re applying to colleges in the fall, but AP exams are only administered in May, we’ll have heard from all our colleges by then. And some colleges don’t even reward AP credit, so I guess what I’m asking is…WHAT’S THE POINT?

No.

No.

Yea, as someone mentioned it was an alternative form that I took. Does anyone know of a way to verify if my essays were scored?

^Pay the $25 rescore fee.

@314159265 So, if I pay for a rescore, they will check if my essays were scored, correct? I know they don’t rescore the essays, but I’d rather not pay the 7 dollars for my essays to make sure they weren’t misplaces/not graded.

I feel the same. When I took the practice tests, I only got 5-6 wrong each time. And I studied for an entire month. My DBQs were always in the high As but the Nixon DBQ threw me off this year. However, I still knew what to talk about. I mentioned SALT, hyperinflation, detente, cambodia, watergate, pentagon papers. I calculated and it said even if I got a 4 on my DBQ and 6 and 7 on the FRQS, with 65% on multiple choice, I should’ve gotten a 5. I was positive my FRQs were amazing because I always ace those. I had so much information on those FRQs. So, I think I’m going to get it rescored. When I heard my score over the phone. I was in shock for 10 seconds, I couldn’t believe it.

I believe that’s the case, based on what I’ve read on CC. I have never done a rescore myself, though.

Guys if you expected a 5 and got a 4 there is no point to ask for a re-score. Most likely college board did not make a mistake and you simply did not do as well as you expected. On the other hand if you get a 1 or a 2 and expected a 5, then you should pay the $25 fee. Just my 2 cents

personal preference though^ I got a 3 on one that I had a decent chance at a 4, so I sent in the rescore request a couple days ago, hoping for that 4!!!

^ Well getting a 4 rather than a 3 is a lot more important than getting a 5 rather than a 4 (since in most colleges a 5 or 4 is fine).

Update us on how it goes though.

Yep, and at my college, a 4 means credit, a 3 means nothing, so it’s a big difference! yep, I will but won’t have any update for 6-8 weeks!

I’d think rescoring scores that are “borderline” is a waste of money. Even if you were one point off, it won’t change if there isn’t any error with it (unless you hope for an eraser smudge/stray mark/incompletely filled bubble that affected the score enough to change the grade…)

I got a 3 on ap chem when i was a hundred percent sure when i left the room I’d get a 1/2. should I rescore??
^true story haha

Hi everyone,

After seeing the success many have been having by rescoring, I am considering sending mine in for a rescore as well. If I do a rescore, do they check over the entire test?
Hello everyone!
I finally got my AP scores and I can say I’m happy with my results, save for one score.
While a 3 in AP English Lang is by no means a bad score, I was certain I had earned a 5. Throughout the course of the year, I earned nothing lower than a 6 on my essays (right at the beginning of the year I got a 6 on a practice essay) while consistently scoring 7’s and 8’s towards the latter part of the year. I also took many multiple-choice practice tests and scored 40+ correct every time, nearing the 50’s on the last ones. I really feel I performed better than a 3.

Should I rescore?
What do you guys think?
