My wife and I will be attending our first family weekend. Any advice? Things that were more (or less) fun/interesting than you had expected? Logistical advice? Any help is appreciated!

I recommend stopping in Cafe Mengal for a delicious sandwich! (think at Central and Washington next to Lemon Thai)

Thanks, maidenMom, that restaurant sounds great!

Any suggestions for events on campus during Family Weekend?

We went last year, but honestly, our D was so busy we did not see her much! The weekend coincided with some activities and social events we did not want her to miss–we wanted our first-year to solidify new friendships and bond with her peers rather than hang with us. We did go to a pasta dinner for athletes (club and varsity) and parents in the Lulu on Fri. It was enjoyable.

Usually the Galenstone tower (Wellesley’s bell tower) is open for tours/visitors & a family weekend concert. Definitely check it out! The view of campus from the bell tower cannot be matched.

NJSue, looks like we are in a similar position. Our daughter will have lots going on this weekend that has nothing to do with us! I imagine she may get free for a meal or two, though.

wellesley10, thanks for the great tip about the bell tower! That’s something I’d love to do.

If the weather is accommodating, go for a walk around Lake Waban - it’s so bucolic, and you’ll get to cross some properties that are amazing, such as the topiary garden on the Hunnewell Estate. The Davis Museum also has some interesting exhibits.

Have fun!
