I was reading in another thread about summer audition workshops that a couple of parents were recommending (The College Audition Program in Orlando @rickle1 and College Audition Prep Weekend in Dallas @onette ) and I wanted to start a new thread to see what other programs like this are out there. I have a junior D who could benefit from something like this. I know that lots of longer summer programs put some emphasis on the college audition, but I was specifically looking for a weekend type program because we don’t have the budget for the longer programs. We are in the Southeast, so I’m especially interested in ones in this area. Thanks for any info!
Cleveland Musical Theatre has a great weekend in OCTOBER, Columbus Day weekend. In the past CMU, Michigan, Baldwin W, Wright State, PPU and Cincinnati Conservatory attend. Very low cost and focuses on college audition prep. But not especially close to you in the south @ARBMusTheatre . Sophomores, juniors and seniors attend
My D is doing a 10 day program in Hilton Head, SC via SSTI (Southeastern Summer Theatre Institute) this summer. It is their Essentials program and all they will be working on is college audition prep.
The College Audition Program ( google and go to their site) also does individual school workshops, master classes. Tim has a pretty active calendar of events. You can check the schedule to see if something is doable. His premier program is the full week in the summer but does a lot of smaller events as well.
https://www.collegeauditionprepweekend.com/ is the one I mentioned. This would be just north of Dallas-Ft. Worth in Denton. (Would fly into DFW Airport or Love Field). The weekend is one that two of my student did last year with mock auditions and it was VERY helpful for them to get in front of Kaitlin Hopkins (TXST), Bob Westerberg (Missouri State) and other directors and get real, actionable feedback on their material and other things. Always in summer (August) so time to use that to help create your prescreens and plan audition material. There is an intensive also that is longer (and more expensive) but this is the first year for that. The intensive includes prescreen filming and headshots and help with essays, but I personally think it is out of order. The mock audition should happen first. (Just my opinion!)
Also new this year is Missouri College Audition Prep. Near St Louis. Registration has opened. Dates are August 1 and 2. Colleges have not all been announced yet. @ARBMusTheatre this might be closer to you than the Cleveland weekend. Good luck! So many other college prep events, but if you want a weekend, this is all I know of. Maybe others know more…
My S did a weekend-long one in NYC last August put on by Broadway Workshop. It was helpful. He ended up changing all his material afterwards, but the general advice he got and the mock audition practice was great and the coaches were super supportive.
@Notmath1 I looked up the one you mentioned and the price is very reasonable and that is within driving distance for us, so I’m very interested in it! Do you have a website link or any way to find out more information? All I could find when I googled it was basically where you pay to reserve the class.
Thanks so much for the suggestions, everyone!!
I would contact that community college to get more info. Don’t think we are allowed to post links. Sorry
