Anyone on CC have a summer job, or looking for one? I've been applying like crazy in the last few weeks, but no luck yet. I hate how I can't officially say that I have my high school diploma when filling out applications because I still have a month of school left till graduation.

If you have one, where do you work? How did you get that job?

2 summers ago: Maintenance worker
last summer: Camp counselor
this summer: tennis instructor

I didn’t have any problems finding jobs. I just applied/sent emails, had interviews (and I had to play tennis for the tennis one), and I got the job. Perhaps you can’t find any jobs because you’re shooting too high.

I haven’t looked for a job per se, but I have found two great internships that I will be doing in the summer. Just send out emails.

I think it must depend on where you live…cos I can assure you that in NYC it’s alot more than just sending out emails. Camp counselor positions are difficult to get if you don’t know someone on staff or you didn’t go to the camp yourself for years. Ditto for any sort of spa/tennis club/gym situation.

I mean it’s not just emails. That would be too easy. It just starts the process.

I don’t live in NYC, but I do live in another major city.

Thanks for the advice! I’m emailing a couple of tutoring centers tonight, and am going to apply to a couple of golf courses I frequent. Unfortunately the first time I wrote to a tutoring center a month ago, they said that they wanted someone who would be there a full year (I’m leaving for college this year).

Emails just start the process. Then you have an interview(s), you have to give them your resume, they call your references, etc.
