Summer Leadership Programs at Deloitte, PWC, E&Y, and KPMG?????

so far ive had an interview with pwc. next week i have interviews with kpmg and e & y. I won’t hear if i got an interview from deloitte until the end of the week.

I’m interviewing for the externship programs. So far, the interviews have been fairly simple and conversational. For PWC, my interviewer just asked me to tell him all about things on my resume. He also asked one behavioral question, what type of role do you normally fall into when working with a group, and give an example. Then we kind of just chatted about normal stuff. My guess is that the other companies are fairly similar.

I’ve interviewed with Deloitte and KPMG so far for their summer leadership programs. I find out if I get chosen for an interview with E&Y this week, and I missed the deadline for PwC (oops). The Deloitte interview was mainly behavioral questions (i.e. tell me how you lead a team) KPMG was much simpler, no behavioral questions just chatted about my resume for 25 minutes then asked if I had any questions about the firm.

I didn’t want to start a new thread since the topic is similar enough, but I’m having in-house interviews with EY and PwC this week for summer internships and was wondering if anyone had any ideas what questions to ask. I was just making a list and it’s kind of hard since at this point I know a pretty decent amount about the firms and the internship programs themselves.

Thanks!

Awesome, thanks for the replies guys. Yeah, I missed deloitte’s deadline this past couple weeks, but might get something worked out since I have a cousin inside.

I’ve been getting mixed answers as to which is most competitive/easiest to get. People are telling me that summer leadership is easier to get into than a full-time, and vice versa.

to rusoboy23, congrats on your second rounds! As for your question, although you are ahead of me in the game and probably know more than me, aside from the typical: tell me about the environment in the office, etc. etc.,

I would ask questions that can only be answered by people that actually work at the office.
Maybe questions like: How is the typical vibe of the office? How is the usual demeanor of the associates? How did or will the firm handle the implementation of IFRS?

or maybe even ask personal questions for the interviewer? ‘Tell me about your training’, ‘What made EY or PwC stand out for you?’

Oh and to jkatakoon, I definitely would get in touch with the recruiters about that. I don’t think its required that you finish intermediate accounting at my school for internships at the big 4, so I guess it depends on the firm/region?

Anyone else interview for these programs recently? Have you heard back?

I recently interviewed for KPMG and E&Y’s summer programs.

Yup, I recently interviewed with PwC & KPMG. I should be hearing back by the end of this week.

PwC mainly behavioral, KPMG very conversational.

Cool

The woman I interviewed with for E&Y said decisions may not be made until April 15th or so.

Heard back from pwc, no good. Not surprised… wasn’t feeling too hot about it anyway.

Felt really good about KPMG so we’ll see.

I got into KPMG’s summer leadership program. The interview was easy going. the hr rep basically went through a few activities and jobs on my resume for 15 minutes and turned it over to me for questions. I think it’s important for anyone who’s interviewing for one of these programs to show interest and the best way to do so is to ask the hr rep meaningful questions. overall, it’s a pretty laid back interview.

My question is directed towards anyone who has attended a kpmg summer leadership program.

How many people are offered internships after completing the program?

Unfortunately I did not get into the KPMG program. Waiting on E&Y…

MRoCkEd, good luck with E&Y. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.

knicks103, my son attended both programs (KPMG and E&Y) a couple of summers ago. The two were very different. KPMG flew about 125 students from around the country to Los Angeles for a three-day program that combined business with a very good time (Universal Studios, Academy Awards theater). During the day, the students attended lectures by various KPMG management and human resources personnel who spoke about the CPA exam, about choosing a specialty (audit, tax, etc.) and opportunities in and outside the U.S. The students also interviewed with the human resource rep for the office in which they would want to intern the following summer (after junior year). Later that summer, they had actual on-site interviews at the office where they wanted to intern. Before returning to school that September, they learned whether they were selected for an internship.

When my son returned to school that fall, the KPMG recruiter for his university spoke to his class about the summer leadership program and the internship program. He told them that those selected for the summer leadership program are held to a higher academic standard (@3.8 GPA vs 3.6 for the general pool) because they are most likely to receive an internship offer. In fact, about 90% typically do.

The E&Y program began with a meeting at the local office one evening where a partner gave an overview about the practice, followed by dinner at a nearby restaurant. Each student was matched up with a mentor who was someone in their first or second year at E&Y. The group met twice more that summer, once to attend a sporting event and then again for another social activity. Not sure when decisions were made about internships for the following summer because my son had already accepted one at KPMG.

Hope this helps and best of luck to all.

knicks103, do you know which program in KPMG? I believe they have local and national programs, the latter lasting 2-3 days, while the local programs last for a day.

I do believe the national programs give a great advantage for those trying to secure the internship; however, I am not sure how great the local program is in terms of advantages and etc.

worrywart and junshik, thanks for the replies. I should have specified that I’m going to attend a local summer leadership program. The recruiter told me that it would last 2-3 days and I would be taking part in similar activities that your worrywart’s son did. I’m hoping these similarities means similar internship opportunities.

Just an FYI: Make sure to send thank you emails to those who email you about interviews as well as the interviewee. If you do not do this, you’re likely not to be given a chance.

Oh definitely I agree that, thank you letters/emails are a must for the recruiters and interviewers.

I thought my interview went extremely well with KPMG, we went on and on talking and we didn’t even know our interview time was up, so I only had time to squeeze one question in at the end. He told me to email him if I had any other questions and etc.

I shot him a thank-you email, but received no reply from him; is that normal? I also received no follow-up from the recruiter, so do we assume that we weren’t accepted if we get no notifications?

Waiting on E&Y and now Grant Thornton (not big four, but they have a similar program).

As I mentioned earlier, the person from E&Y told me decisions may not be until April 15th.

The interviewer from GT said I should know by next week or the week after.

Would be great to be accepted into one or both of these. But it won’t be the end of the world if I’m not, as I can work harder and apply for an internship in the fall.

So I followed up with the recruiter on the lack of notifications and the recruiter responded pretty promptly, she just didn’t have time to get back to anyone, so the candidates will be hearing back by the end of next week.

Good luck MRoCkEd on EY and GT! Let us know how it goes.

anyone heard back? i had an interview w/ kpmg & e&y.

i had an interview with kpmg and e&y also! anyone hear back from recruiters yet? when should we expect a reply if we just had an interview this week?

also, i was wondering how selective these programs are? is getting an interview pretty difficult?
